Those big facilities are visual representations of being willing to spend money and do whatever it takes to win in football. Ours is a visual representation of a program looking for the cheap way out. We would have been better off not building one at all, IMO.

You know that. I know that. But does an 18 year old really think like that? I know I didn't. You check out the stadium, Girls, the weight room, girls, dining hall, girls, Training room, girls...well....you get the picture.

Hey. I'm not saying you are wrong. I am guessing you are much younger than I am and probably have a better feel for it. I'm just saying what mattered to me.

It's mostly about visuals.

I agree with this. But the visuals he is taking away with him is the stadium. He will try to see himself playing at the stadium and what it would be like.

Then the weight room. THIS is where you can make a big difference visually. Size and diversity of equipment.

These, IMO, are the two biggies. (Any kind of swag in the field house/coaches offices is bonus.

A IPF is easily a better visual than a weight room IMO. So is the locker room/player lounge area.

It doesn't really matter. All our peers have nice stadiums and weight rooms too. Alabama has redone their weight room twice in the last 5 years for example. Then they also have IPF's. There's a football arms race going on that UGA is losing.

Those things all play a big role. Those are all pluses in UGA's favor and are why UGA recruits at a high level.

I'm talking about putting UGA in a position to recruit at an elite level though. Think top 3-4 classes instead of top 8-9. That doesn't seem like much, but it can be the difference between just winning the East and winning the whole damn thing.

What it all comes down to is Bama, Auburn, etc. having a willingness to promote their programs by any means necessary.

UGA doesn't share that ambition. Hell, we flat out refuse to promote our Heisman contending players. Functionality isn't an issue (the functionality of an IPF barely registers as an argument in this day and age), but appearance is. UGA is content with high performance equipment and facilities and scoffs at the idea of renovation projects for aesthetic purposes. We are led by a frugal AD who answers to an old guard board of directors. The way they see it, if it isn't broke then why bother fixing it? If your Corvette has a fresh coat of paint and the engine purrs, then why buy a Ferrari? It's a Warren Buffett line of thinking, which obviously is in no way a bad business philosophy. It's just not a competitive one and in a business predicated on athletic competition, that doesn't seem to add up.
