Agreed...

One observation I have noticed since the first game is it seemed as though JDJ was dialing it back or didn't look like he was hustling like he did last year

In particular, the first TD by USCe

Not saying he isn't a badass player, but I wonder if there was complacency from our D leader that oozed into the rest of the team on D

I am hoping that CJ Allen is providing some juice on D for the rest of the team a la Ole Miss game

Maybe I'm way off the mark here, but CJ Allen seems more athletic than JDJ? He might be a little more polished and experienced, but I'm not entirely convinced that JDJ is the better player.

Before Ole Miss I saw JDJ as the known player, where we know he's gonna diagnose and understand the game at a very high level, but his physical tools were being propped up by his football IQ. Great LB to have, but still being held back by his physical ceiling.

While CJ is an absolute freak of an athlete, but unproven when it comes to knowing the calls, checks, and alignments. What good is athleticism if you take yourself out of the play?

It's a high floor and a low ceiling for JDJ, with a low floor and astronomically high ceiling for CJ. CJ is still growing and learning, but he really shined against Ole Miss. I was very worried that Lane would find ways to exploit him, but he absolutely stepped up.

If CJ's floor isn't as low as you'd expect for a freshman LB in our defense, I think you gotta roll with CJ more and more. He's the future at the position and his upside potential is unanimous All-American.

Not unless we allow Ten to create momentum. Their fanbase is very unhappy, especially after last week's loss. They're literally playing for nothing. Yes, some fans would give anything to beat UGA and consider it worth cheering their nuts off for. Most? They're sick of losing and aren't in the mood for consolation prizes.

This game feels so weird. Preseason this was THE game that everybody had highlighted as the one real test. Things obviously played out differently (as they often do) and now this game really has very little impact on the CFB season.

BUT, it’s total Super Bowl mode for Tennessee because they have literally none of their other pre-season goals left to attain.

-Win the East - X
-Beat Alabama again - X
-Make the College Football Playoffs - X

The Georgia game is all they have left.

Then for us, it’s coming at the end of a big 4-game stretch after Florida, Mizzou and Ole Miss and two weeks before the big SECCG showdown with Bama.

Just an uneasy spot to be in. In terms of having the team ready and focused on the game, I’d almost rather have the East on the line.

Might be an understatement.

The kid looks every bit as good as Roquan or Dean as a freshman. He's a bit stronger than either of them were as freshmen, and he looks at least as fast.

If I remember correctly both of those guys had a bit more trouble than CJ shedding blocks to make a play during their freshman seasons. (That's not a knock on either, BTW. This freshman runs right through linemen on the way to ball carriers.)

It remains to be seen if he has the leadership or intangibles, but the physical attributes? Elite.
