In fact, I think they may have been what kept him there another 5 years .

On paper, it was because he couldn't win enough big games. Another significant issue was that UGA had a lot of kids publicly in trouble.... That waned the past few years, but it was still attached to his administration.

I think the biggest issue was he didn't play the political game too well. He didn't get the money he needed, so he paid coaches out of pocket. That is awesome, but we have jack stick boosters with more money than sense for that kind of affair. Those are the same guys who get you your IPF, put political pressure on the local police forces to back the frick off, and to make sure you have all the discretionary recruiting funds needed. The fact that none of the big boosters are screaming foul tells me that he didn't have that relationship... I think he figured it out last year, but by then it was too late. He played the political game and lost. Anything else is just emotion...

I do appreciate what he did for our program overall and think he is an overall good dude. Now, in less than 4 days, he is taking a HC job at UM. My gut tells me that he saw the writing on the wall and got his ducks in a row. Good for him, but he ain't no Granny Weatherall...

Good Post. I refer to Tony Barnhardt, "yes some changes were needed, but if you are happy a guy like Mark Richt was fired. you are a sick Puppy." I wish the guy the best. I will cheer for Miami for the first time in my life, now. But, Georgia needed a new direction, if we were going to compete for championships, and no program's direction should be held hostage by a few 18 year olds that have never played a down yet.

It was an affront on "do your fricking job." His prime directive is to win football games. Not just the easy ones.

Agree and I don't know why anyone would ever think that unless some inexplicably link the seemingly general anti-Christian trend in our nation. Put simply, I can't remember any public statements by our university that suggested that Richt needed to reign in his Christian values. As you say, if anything the positive PR associated with Richt's good Christian image probably gave him the benefit of the doubt during tough times.

I agree with this also. Richt was at times a Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde personality. Overall he was a good guy but I think because he knew that some perceived him as soft, he would have his Evil Richt moments to counter that perception. The clear-the-bench incident during the '07 Florida game was the classic example which we paid for many times over in the obvious way game officials ruled against our team thereafter.

Also, a premise of Christianity is discipline yet one of the prominent characteristics of Richt's teams was a lack of discipline. And considering Richt's good guy image, he sure wasn't a good judge of character when you consider all the high profile players who have gotten in trouble and got kicked off the team. Reactionary discipline is not helpful after it is too late and you feel compelled to dismiss a key player.

Regardless, I still consider Richt the best HC in UGA history in spite of the lack of a NC. But he certainly had his share of shortcomings, otherwise he would still be our HC.

All In The Fambly (episode one)

Daddy Richt, by all accounts was a good man. Deacon of his church and made a pretty decent but not spectacular living for his family. He had high standards and, if he caught you smoking weed or messing up your girlfriend, he sent you to live with Uncle Gus or Uncle Les. This didn't sit well with the rest of the kids.

The kids were always jealous of Uncle Nick, the hedge fund guru who lived on the good side of the tracks in the biggest house and who bought new Lexus' for his kids every other year, it seemed. Daddy's kids had to share an old Ford truck and they were embarrassed to drive it over to Nick's house on the holidays.

Momma put up with Daddy for years, cause he was a "good provider", but the kids kept after her until, finally, she'd heard enough and told Daddy that she loved him but he was gonna have to leave. The neighbors were shocked.

Daddy took it like a man and figured he'd go to Seminary for a year maybe. But then an old flame, an ex-hooker from south Florida, called and told him she'd found the Lord and wanted Daddy to come South and help her find the righteous path.

The kids were conflicted. Some said "good riddance". Some said "how are we gonna make it without Daddy?" The youngest and most promising, Jake, said "maybe I wanna go live with Daddy and the hooker".

Momma called cousin Kirby, the oldest of Uncle Nick's kids, to come move in. Kirby had always kinda liked Momma, and Nick had taught him some of the hedge fund tricks. Kirby said he didn't mind so much that you smoked a bowl every so often, and wouldn't make you go to church every Sunday, which made most of Momma's kids happy. He promised them he'd get them maybe a BMW or two in a few years, if things worked out.

Kirby promised to have a sit down with Jake and convince him to stay with Momma's family. He even said he'd try to keep Daddy's adopted black sheep son, Jeremy (who seemed to be always causing Momma trouble) from running off.

Took OT to beat Ga Southern. Jesus himself would find himself on the hotseat for such a cluster.
