What a horrendously stupid idea on their part. Especially

quote:

explores making freshmen in football and men's basketball ineligible for competition.

They will never get a top 20ish national HS Bball player again as long as this rule is in place. All these 1 and done superstars that mostly go play at UK won't even consider OSU anymore. Neither will elite, high profile football players that have it in their heads they're going 3 years then gone.

Wisconsin kicks that entire league's arse without one and done guys already and in football they don't seem to play freshmen too often. There's your number one beneficiary to this potential rule.

I don't think this is about making Big 10 freshmen ineligible. It's about making SEC freshmen ineligible. I guarantee that the Big 10 is not intending to unilaterally disarm themselves.

Why would that be a good idea?

I never said it was. I think it's an awful idea for the B1G and one that other conferences won't seriously consider following through with. The B1G has always tried to portray themselves as an academic holy ground (and NW, Michigan, Purdue, and Wisconsin are great schools) and claims that this will benefit the players. It may benefit the four year players in both sports who don't have legitimate pro chances, but it would seriously hurt their on field product.

I miss this game!

quote:

For 60 years, Thanksgiving Day was a special day in the history of the Georgia - Georgia Tech rivalry. It was on that day that the Georgia and Georgia Tech freshman football teams, and in later years the junior varsity teams, met at Tech’s Grant Field. The game, played from 1933 to ’93, annually benefited the Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital and became a nationally-recognized event.

I think it would be good for the kids in general in getting them acclimated into a real' student setting. Who knows they might just learn something?

Everybody would have to do it including the Alabama teams to make it work like it should. "IMO"

This is a horrible idea and one that I hope never gets implemented!
