I will say that i don't think the SECCGs make Greene superior to Murray. That Arkansas team and the LSU and Bama teams were a little different.

And as much as I like Greene and he is a DGD for sure, if he had the defenses Murray did, we wouldn't look back on Greene's tenure as happily.

Both were proven on the field. 2012 has AM and a redshirted Mason.

If we're really comparing apples to apples, you can't say 2012 had a "redshirted mason" (ie, what mason actually did in THAT given year) and then use shockley's accolades in 2005. In 2004, shockley hadn't really done too terribly much either outside of a couple big games in 02.

I like to think the 03 SECCG vs LSU didn't happen too but unfortunately it did.

The only stat I see here is 2-0 vs. 0-2 in SECCGs.

I bring stats that prove Aaron Murray with Hutson Mason as a backup was by far the best position group we have ever had at QB. You want to know why David Greene and Shockley won championships. Here let me help you out.

Defense Wins Championships

Defense again

Our Defense was ranked 3rd in the nation in 04 and 6th in 05.

Now look at our defense from 2012.

LINK

We ranked 19th but got absolutely ran over by Alabama. Damn I miss when we actually played sound defense.

I would like to see what would have happened in that game had Lumpkin not dropped the wide open pass that would have went for a TD. UGH. After that, it was like we gave up.

Yea it's just like the pass to Mitchell in 2011 vs LSU too. We had the chance to go up early but didn't. Even though honestly that LSU team in 2011 was a much better team than we were. But it was still frustrating.

If memory serves it was some type of wheel route. I remember he was streaking down the middle of the field WIDE OPEN and dropped it. That, combined with the fact their DL was dominating the piss out of our OL all game made for a long day.

They were a MUCH better team than us, which makes it more frustrating that we could've been up 21-3 at halftime. Also frustrating that tm dropped the ball before crossing teh goal line on a PR TD that was never called.

I think it was a circle route over the middle and literally no one was within 10 yards of him and he was WIDE OPEN. Greene hit him in the hands and he just dropped it. After that, we got our asses handed to us.

For OL, I'd definitely go with 2014. Runner-up would be 2001 imo. Verron Haynes was averaging 150 yards per game during the last month of the season.

As for DE, I think that we had 5 future pros in 2002.

Wide receiver imo would be 2004. Both first-team All-SEC receivers that season were Dawgs.

And YES that 2003 LSU defense was the biggest and baddest defense that I can remember.

Other than leading the most dynamic offenses we've had under Richt, I have no idea why

Oh I'm not knocking Greene at all. One of my favorite Dawgs ever. So is Shockley, maybe even more so than Greene but I think it's a tie for me.

I'm one of the few who would rather have Shockley or Greene in 2012. Or even Stafford.

Oh well yea I'm not with you on that. Greene wasn't meant to be in an offense that had to put up 30-40+ to win games. Shockley would've done well in our 2012 offense though.

My one problem with Stafford was he had that Brett Favre type style. He knew he could sling it around and made throws he probably shouldn't have due to that. It works fine in the NFL where a few losses don't knock you out of the Super Bowl but not in college. It definitely results in throws not many players can make, but it leads to some bad INTs too.
