If you think about it, it's not much different from being an NFL coach. It just lacks the labels. For all intents and purposes UGA is the primary ownership group of the team and is made up of smaller part owners like the guys in COlumbus and Charlotte and Warner Robins, etc.

Coach Dooley, is smart... Real smart actually. He figured this out in two ways... He tucked it up gig time with these cats. Akins, Leeberns, etc. he spent a lot of time with them... They were his buds... They also weren't calling for his head when things went bad. Of course, they were useful for other operations as well. In return, they got unprecedented access. That's what these guys want. They want to be a part of things.
Goff follows in Dooley's footsteps in this regard, but wasn't nearly as smart as Dooley. Of course, sucking didn't help.
Donnan hates hangers on and people with their hands out. I kind of respect that, but the reality is, you better goddamn win if you play that game.
Richt, I think tried, but I he wasn't coming over to play cards with the boys til 4am.
I think Kirby will get this. He has seen how it works. Bama has a lot more than we do. At least I hope he does. We are in an arms race. We need a Reagan, not a Carter....

Seems to me that Bobo and Kirby are more cut from that good ol boy cloth and would be more willing to play ball with the boosters

So based on Schumann's "Wheels up" comment on Twitter, sounds like he's sitting beside Kirby on the way to Lake Stevens today.

Dooley wasn't friendly enough with Leebern since he got fired.

How old are you, Porter?
I ask because if you are under 35, maybe you aren't old enough to remember that Dooley retired as HC, and was going to make a run as Governor...then, there was an alleged sex scandal, and he settled on AD.
Unless you were talking about him being forced out as AD...but that had more to do with Harrick and the basketball team than anything to do with football.
Dooley wasn't fired as HC.

alleged sex scandal,
Remember everything else but that. Elaborate.

Seems that Schumann may be a new LB coach, per Chauncey Manac

Leeburn pushed for Adams so he could fire Dooley as AD. I'm over 35 but I don't remember a sex scandal.

There was a scandal and when Dooley was a coach, he was tight as a tick with that crowd...

Is Manac wearing Uggs?

Looks like it. Quite a few of those guys do; interesting personalities
ETA - Plus, are you going to tell him they look stupid?

Schumann is from Valdosta apparently. Seems likely that he could be our South Georgia guy moving forward

Does he have any actual coaching experience? I thought he was more like a quality control guy who put their defensive packages together.

He had Jeremy Pruitt's old job

Any mention of Pruitt?
