A couple positives in the grand scheme of things

Last year, I was not someone who wanted Mark Richt to get fired. I thought he was a good coach, and he was going to have one of the best recruiting classes in his time at Georgia. That being said, I'm incredibly thankful he was fired last year.
Our current team does not have a ton of talent (understatement, I know) and despite some errors that Smart has made, I have a really hard time believing that Mark Richt would be any better than 5-3 (best case scenario, 6-2) at this point in the season. The team would still have been blown out by Ole Miss, and we would be a middle of the conference SEC-East team once again. There is no way, IMO Richt would have been able to survive one more season, with all of the pressure on him. He would have been fired, and we would be looking for a HC with Kirby probably 1st on the list once again.
So firing Richt last year, just gave us a full year head start on Kirby's first full recruiting class, that could help lead Georgia back into the spotlight as one of the better teams in the SEC.
I do still think there are plenty of things we need to work on, but we all knew this was not a team that was going to be good this year. Eason has shown he has potential to be a great QB, good young RBs, a couple decent young targets for Eason, and we have young players contributing all around the defense. We have a very promising future if we can figure out the OL, and despite how poor we've been this year I do believe that Pittman is the right OL coach to get the job done.
Sorry for the little mini-rant. Go Dawgs.

Yep, things are never as bad or as good as the seem at the time. Eason is showing some promise in spite of bad form and inaccuracy but a lot of that was due to constant pressure from Florida's defense. He did roll/ran out of pressure of few times and made some good plays under extreme duress. The defense played pretty well overall considering the offense only got 8 first downs. Looks like we have found a reliable FG kicker/kick off specialist in Blankenship. Unfortunately our punting remains abysmal. We only completed 15 passes but Godwin had a decent game with 5 receptions. But honestly most of our problems on offense and defense relate back to our OL play. When the offense struggles to get first downs obviously you aren't scoring enough but we are also wearing out the defense because they are on the field so often.

Yesterday was the first game I've been to this year and it was clear to me that Eason's inaccuracy/poor footwork is due to nearly immediate penetration of our offensive line. We often do have receivers open down field (yesterday I saw Ridley wide open on 2 separate occasions down field but Eason was too busy running for his life to see him and make an accurate throw). Sometimes Eason simply doesn't see them, but 70% of the time he is getting pressure and doesn't have time to make the play. I was amazed yesterday that he did not turn the ball over.

I am beginning to think it really is this simple.

Eason has absolutely no clue how to move in the pocket. Many times he could simply take one step in the right direction and avoid the rush but he always makes the wrong move. Eason lacks the minimum amount of athleticism required to be successful. Year two will not be a whole lot better.
Jacob Eason isn't close to being as good as Sean White. I hope Jake Fromm can take over next year.

Don't understand all the people who wanted to start a freshman QB to gain experience then bash him when he struggles and decide he isn't good.
He is an 18 year old kid who is a year removed from playing HS football in Washington. Of course he is going to struggle.
Watching him I'm really excited about the future. He is a competitor, shows signs of being a leader and shows flashes of being a great QB. Playing behind the worst OL in the SEC with undersized WRs who haven't been able to control their drops has to factor in a bit.

Comparing Jacob Eason to Sean White should get you kicked off the rant...

I might have been harsh re Eason because I don't think he is the number one problem. It seems like Smart and Chaney specifically designed an offense that places a rookie QB in the worse position to succeed.

I'll be the first to admit I am not as informed s some of you are about xs on os but when you are getting pressure like we were against the UF d and you have a young QB ain't the traditional answer screen passes? We used to run screen passes until you were sick of seeing them but we seem to have ripped that page out of the playbook for some reason????

Screen passes are actually tough for a young QB. They are easy to telegraph and that often leads to disaster.

Not to mention that with our blocking on the perimeter (or lack thereof) you're looking at best case a 3 yard loss or at worst case an easy pick 6

I like the discipline being shown on the field. The defense, in particular, seems to take it back to the huddle right after making a solid tackle or play without acting like they just won the super bowl every time.

I guess I should have clarified that we don't have a ton of experienced talent, especially on both lines which to me, are the two most important position groups in CFB.

I thought we'd be 9-3, but I still didn't think we'd be good. I just thought our schedule was absolutely terrible. I figured we should beat the 7 bad teams on our schedule, and then scrape 2 wins out of UNC, OM, TN, FL, and AU (who I didn't expect to be good)
