Hey guys, I was wondering what you guys expect this year from your offense and defense. I know you got a great d coordinator and return about everyone one d right? Who will your quarterback be? Do you guys have a qb battle up for grabs like we do? I come in peace..

QB will be Hutson Mason, 5th year senior. He came in late in the season after Murray tore his ACL and did a great job. He plays a little faster than Murray, and he's a little bigger than Murray.

Defense only loses 1 starter to graduation (garrison smith, defensive line) and another starter at strong safety, Josh Harvey-Clemons, to dismissal (multiple team rules violations).

We may lose our other starting safety, Trey Matthews, depending on whether or not he gets booted for his recent trouble. Regardless of whether he gets booted, at the very least he'll miss the opener vs yall.

On offense, we lose 3 starting offensive linemen.

On the bright side, Gurley will be back and presumably at full-speed.

Hutson MAson will be the QB. He's no Murray, and he left a lot to be desired in his first two starts last year. I think he willl be okay but would not feel comfortable putting the game on his back. There is no competition, he will be the starter.

The main concern on offense for us is O-line. We'll spend the spring and fall camps trying to find a rotation that works. Skill positions will be very good.

Defense will be a unknown, imo. I'm sure we'll be palying good better defense by the end of the year, but I'm not sure how things are gonna go in game one. We have the talent, and Pruitt seems to be a good teacher, so we're hoping it gels quickly.

Plus, injuries, arrests, and suspensions are always major concerns, too.

Watson will be great but I think he will redshirt. I may be wrong, but it takes about a year to learn an offense well. Gurley scares me, we have a pretty good front and played some great backs( Gurley, Hyde at OSU, Davis at USC and Williams at BC). Gurley was in a whole different league.

Didn't take Nick Marshall or Cam Newton a year to learn their offense. If yall are going in the same direction, and Watson is there as an early enrollee, I don't see why you hold him out just for being his first year in the program.

In my opinion yes. Struggled for long stretches in both games. And those two team weren't exactly world beaters. That doesn't work well for our gameplan.

Now, that wasn't the best situation to b thrown into for your first couple of starts, and i'm sure he gained some experience from those games. Hopefully, he puts everything together next year.

Yea that's true, I would like to see it but well see I guess. Reports are all 3 are getting first team reps in practice.

That's generic and shortsighted.

Theus is who you should be worried about.

Mason led us out of a 20 point deficit to beat GT in overtime.

Mason damn near led us out of a big deficit vs Nebraska until all the receivers decided to start dropping passes in the last 5 minutes.

I urge you to rewatch those games on youtube when you have some time to kill.

I mentioned the entire o-line in my OP

I said Mason was okay. I know he doesn't suck, but he's not a game changer. If we had Alabama's offense, I wouldn't worry. But in an offense that wants to be as balanced as ours plus a shaky O-line, Mason worries me.

Whomever wins the turnover battle wins the game.

The rest is just for pre-season mags and blogs.
