well, 102 years later

there's a Bible verse about "nothing new under the sun"

of course, this article is 2 yrs old and talking about influenza

Red & Black

quote:

100 years ago today, on Oct. 7, 1918, the city of Athens imposed a quarantine as a response to the influenza pandemic.

The Athens Daily Herald published a story at the time with the headline “University of Georgia Put Under Strict Temporary Quarantine” that detailed some of the effects on the university. At the time, 70 cases of influenza were reported among students, and three or four were classified as severe.

According to the Center for Disease Control, the influenza pandemic infected approximately 500 million people worldwide, or one third of the planet’s population. At least 50 million people died, including an estimated 675,000 Americans.

Covid is not an influenza, it's a single virus that can mutate.

COVID-19 is a disease. SARS-COV-2 is the virus. Corona virus is a family so it's not a single virus. If you're going to correct people, you should probably have your shite straight.

That was the question in the OP that was being answered... Covid 19 is a single virus, the one we are currently dealing with.

It is not an Influenza...

yep

it's very interesting to see stuff from just 100 years ago about how they shut everything down, much like today

There was a question in the OP?

It's not but if you can't see how it's a salient point...I don't know why I respond to shite like this. I'll stop. You can be right if it'll make you feel better.

Yeah, been better if you came to this point before your condescending post.

People thinking this is a common flu is why people aren't behaving the way they should.

It was no less condescending than yours.

Edit: I meant no more condescending.

Nah, I was pointing out a very common misconception. My intent was good.

Trump clearly fricked up the response to that one too. Plus, calling it the Spanish Flu was racist of him.

So much wrong in one short post.

OP didn't ask a question. He linked an article from 2 years ago. Surprise. It had frick all to do with the novel corona virus we are dealing with now.

Covid 19 is NOT a virus. It is *caused* by a virus. As Sneaky already pointed out to you.

And literally no one in this thread said that it is an influenza... You're tilting at windmills. It appears to be a common occurrence right now on the boards. I think people are getting stir crazy...

Did you mean "not a salient point"? If not, I'm struggling to make sense of this one... I think you're letting the idiots drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience. Don't let it happen... Fight the good fight.

Here’s Foxfire’s podcast on the 1918 flu epidemic. Pretty interesting to hear those folks that lived through it talk about how folks responded to crisis back then ... which certainly wasn’t making a run on toilet paper.
