Would Jake Spavital Redeem Himself in the Eyes of Aggies?

If Cal beats Washington on Saturday? They already exposed Texas in what was one of the funniest games all season. At that point all Aggy has to do is win out and hope Michigan wins the big 10. If anyone else wins the Big 10, I could see a 1 loss Michigan and 1 or 2 loss OSU/Wisconsin edging us out.

That's like asking if Mark Snyder would have redeemed himself if Michigan State had beaten Michigan last weekend.

You would at least have to give the guy some credit
Maybe redeem was too strong of a word

Nope. But mostly because I don't hate the guy. Dude was in way over his head and sumlin shouldn't have made him OC in the first place. Sure it was impossibly frustrating to see some of the plays he called but I don't despise him for it, he wasn't ready for the responsibilities of our program, again I fault sumlin more for putting him there and not realizing his error sooner.

Redeem = too strong a word
I'd revel in the irony, though.

I never got the Spav hate. Or hating any coach really. They failed moved on.

Nope, because he isn't calling the shots at Cal. It is still Sonny Dykes' offense.

Actually it was death by being unnecessarily complicated. Mazzone is on the other end of the spectrum. They both call a lot of sideline to sideline passes.

it works when you actually try to run the ball though

I think mazzone is a high floor - low ceiling OC, which is fine for our personnel this year.

It's worked so far and he deserves a fair share of credit for our success.
Having said that, I think he (and chavis) need to step their game up the last month if we want a legitimate shot at the last playoff spot. With essentially the entire nation dissecting each and every game of ours from this point forward, we'll need more than just wins, and I think both of those guys can do give even more and we'll need it

We have, by recruiting rankings, one of the most talented rosters in all of football. One of only 7 I believe with a 50% blue chip rate. We also have a roster littered with upperclassmen and guys who have played a ton of snaps.
The only coach I believe should get credit for his unit playing above their talent/experience level is Jim Turner.

Turner has done the best job on staff. But don't undersell what Mazzone has done. He had 1 summer to put together a cohesive unit built around a transfer QB with accuracy issues, a freshman RB, an average OL and a talented, but flawed WR group. And he had zero margin for error, with UCLA and Auburn in the first 3 weeks.
He hasn't been perfect, but he deserves some of the credit for the 7-1 start.

This year there are 13 teams. We have beaten 2 (UCLA and Auburn) and lost to Bama. We will still have to beat LSU. The other teams on that list are USC, ND, OSU, Mich, FSU, UGA, Clemson, and the Sips.
Last year we were 1 of 12 teams and lost to 3 higher rated schools (Bama, LSU, and Auburn).
We had a similar make-up on the roster last year, but Spavital had our offense ranked #48 nationally. Mazzone currently has A&M at #16.

Yeah last years roster was similar, bc underclassmen become upperclassmen.
