The kid won 5k for hitting a half court shot during the LSU game and now it's looking like he might not be able to collect the money

I heard at Saturday's game that Grant Betz, the student who hit a half-court shot at the LSU game to win $5,000 toward his education, might not qualify for the prize because to be eligible the contestant had to be 4-5 years removed from organized basketball.
quote:

Betz, a freshman, played three seasons at Plano West along with current A&M men's basketball players Tyler Davis and D.J. Hogg. However, Betz averaged 1.1 points in 57 games.

On other words, A&M probably went "oh shite we actually have to pay the kid now"

what a pathetic arse way to slither out of paying.

makes it seem like they could purposely pick a kid that played knowing they wouldn't have to pay.

5k is a small amount to pay for avoiding embarrassment if the national media picks this up. Plus it's just the right thing to do.

Kroger tried to back out of 50k for a UK half court shot bc his foot was on the line, social media ended that though lol. I think it was 50 anyway.

Yeah I seem to remember, for the Bulls I think, a guy hit a full length court shot and they tried to get out of it. A lot more than 5k on the line. I know it made the rounds on all the ESPN shows. I'm assuming the Bulls ended up paying but I'm not sure.
