DB's are going to have to be able to play on and island and light out for that Chief system to work.

I honestly don't know what to think. Yes we have Chavis, but is that enough? What kind of questions do we start asking if this isn't our year?

Go away with the. Chavis rhetoric. Chavis cannot be as 1 dimensional as LSU fans have made him out to be AFTER he left. He was the greatest ever and would never ever leave LSU.....until he announced he was leaving LSU

He is smart, experienced and a top 10 FBS DC. He'll find a way to scheme and succeed with what he has to work with.

Will succeed be defined by a top 10 defense? No. But bringing us to a top 50 in year one would be an amazing transformation right)

I'm seeing an 8-4 season. Maybe a 9-3 season at best.

Posh posh, our defense was bad but we win MSU, Missou, and possibly LSU if our receivers had been better. It's not a dramatically improved defense or bust for us. We were mediocre in several key areas. If Sumlin is worth his money, and he is, we should have our offense clicking with some new fire in it's belly. The Johnny/Mike Evans hangover last year was real. But that's so two years ago.

I looked it up and the worst defense he ever coached (it was at Tenn) was ranked the 70th defense in the country. You tell me the Aggies have that next year and I think 10 wins is very doable.

Sarge, you are pouring me even more kool aid! I want to believe but I am scared that if I get my expectations up this will happen to my kool aid after the Arky game:

Maybe that is the better question:

What game do yall think is the PIVOTAL game this season? I am saying Arky.

I'm scared we will destroy ASU like we did SC last year. Then lay an egg for Arky. Good news is Arky will mud hole Tech and probably come in overconfident as well.

Almost forgot to add the biggest question of all: Does our offensive play calling improve?

If we run another series that goes "bubble screen, stretch run, low % sideline route" exactly again I'm going to cut someone.

This. Our OC hasn't proven a damn thing. A good OC doesn't get beat the way we got beat last year, 59-0, etc. you find a way to put some points on the board. That bubble screen hasn't fooled anybody for two years, yet he runs it 20 times/game as if it works, then and completely neglects a perfectly good running game. That is what bothers me the most.

Once teams figured out he couldn't get it past 15 yards it was over.

More like once his liver figured out it couldn't process more than 15 beers it was over.

We all hit that point, don't we?

Monsieur Hill found it out sooner than most.

59-0 isn't on Spavital. He had lots of issues, but that game wasn't it.
The team didn't try. They had given up. It's very easy to look very bad against bama if your hearts not in it. Bama is most teams superbowl and they still look bad.

I'm worried about corners Captain, but honestly they can't be in worse positions than they've been the past two seasons. I wish there were a way to quantify how many times gave up passes to WIDE OPEN receivers, because there is no way anyone in the country gave up more than us.

I do think OL can be a strength, and it's not fair for me to be critical of a unit that was being shuffled around against Myles and Daeshon, but, It will be the first year with no Sherman 1st rounders at tackle.

I'm honestly not worried about arkansas. They lost their 3 best players on defense (maybe on the whole team). Usually you think 3 players, not a huge deal, but they centered their whole defense around them. I rewatched arkansas against us and tech recently, and they seriously made every play.
