Just saw this on my news feed ....
Amid debate over Confederate monuments, Texas A&M will not remove Sul Ross statue

quote:
Ross ... was a Texas Ranger who fought the Native Americans before he enlisted in the Confederate States Army in 1861. He rose to the rank of brigadier general during the war. Afterward, he helped draft the Texas Constitution and served as governor between 1887 and 1891.
quote:
He later became the head of the Texas Division of the United Confederate Veterans.
In a statement, Texas A&M President Michael K. Young defended Ross as a defender of the university.
"Without Sul Ross, neither Texas A&M University nor Prairie View A&M University would likely exist today. He saved our school and Prairie View through his consistent advocacy in the face of those who persistently wanted to close us down," he said. "The Sul Ross statue will remain."

I'm glad to see that President Young gets it.

I would take time off and drive down to CS if they were trying to take down Sul Ross down. All the SJW groups from Houston can throw their little fits. He ain't movin.

From what I remember being on campus, it is not easy to bring a vehicle near Sully without being noticed, let alone the construction equipment required to remove it.
After the statement by Young and Sharp, I imagine any attempt will be met with forceful resistance.
I know if I saw it, I would confront them and ask to see their permit to be there. Then I would call the police.

At least no one is getting run over at that protest.

I'm pretty sure Young and Sharp know deep down that if any attempt occurs to remove Sully that they will see a precipitous and cavernous decrease in donations at all levels.
The risk of losing that is FAR worse than any sort of negative feedback from shithead SJW professors or asshat activist groups.

The Sully statue @ A&M is quite a bit different than the vast majority of these other statues though. He was extremely important to the school's existence and his statue wasn't put up as a big frick you to the Civil Rights movements.

Far from it. Sul Ross was directly responsible for ensuring the existence of the state's only Historical Black College/University (Prairie View).

And he's presented As Such. He's not wearing a uniform in the statue, much less riding a charger with a drawn saber. It's not a confederate statue, like the others clearly are. It's a statue of him in a suit as the civilian leader of the university and it's presented as a portrayal of the man who saved the university.

Not gonna lie I was somewhat concerned what stance Young would take on this

Somewhat? I'm completely shocked that that morally bankrupt philandering liberal scumbag didn't order Sully removed at 2 am. My intuition is that his boss, Sharp - who may be a Democrat but is an Aggie and a former cadet and therefore knows that Sully is there, in a civilian capacity, because he saved the System - got ahead of the subject and straight up told Young that Sully stays and our official position is "kiss our arse, that man saved the oldest Historically Black University in the state." There's no way a pinko like Young came to that conclusion on his own. It came from Sharp down.

This. That's why I'll defend it even though I'm not a fan of confederate monuments. His isn't a monument to the CSA--his is very cogent to his service to TAMU. Him not even being in uniform is huge.

Wait. I just realized something.
Now that we all know that Sul Ross was responsible for saving Prairie View from the precursors to the t-sips, can't we use that against the sip trolls who try to claim racism by basically saying that from the beginning of their school, the racists t-sips were trying to keep Texas from having a HBCU?
