It fell 180 years ago today.

Thanks, they often get forgotten.

Who knows if he said any of that, but that's a damn good speech.

The famed "line in the sand" probably never happened either.
What is known is that Travis faced a no-win situation: either surrender (and probably get massacred by Santa Anna) or die. He chose to stay and fight, and managed to convince everyone else (with the possible exception of Moses Rose--there are questions as to whether he was even there) to join him.
What is also known is that the Alamo is a classic example of winning the battle, but losing the war. Had Santa Anna taken the Alamo in 13 hours instead of 13 days, likely the Texas Revolution comes to a crashing halt.

Indeed.

If only those Tennesseans would not have gave up so soon.
Was it Austin who did not send troops or was it Houston?

Houston refused to send troops and basically gave the Alamo to Santa Anna by picking his battle elsewhere.

Could Houston & Co have saved them? Or would we have lost the war in SA in that battle?
I have a hard time arguing with Houston's methods. He won the war with an inferior army.

Which was a smart move. Mexico had enough troops in Texas to crush Houston's army, but they were divided after the San Antonio trying to chase down the Texicans:
If Houston would have gone all in on the Alamo we would be typing Spanish today.

Not so fast my friend.
Goliad was the hot story at the time, and why those in the Alamo knew surrender was futile, but over time history has reversed the fury and today we say remember the Alamo when back then it was remember Goliad. As the 400 at Goliad were massacred after surrendering it was a horrific global headline as barbarianism after the battle was over.
In the Spanish American War "Remember the Maine" was the battle cry then and remained the same to modern history.

I've always heard both remember the Alamo and remember Goliad.

What are you talking about?
Nothing you said refuted anything with which I was concurring.
