For there to be crow, the crow would need to do more than just hatch from an egg. It would have to literally grow out of a speck of birdseed.

Not a huge Kennedy fan as an outsider, but doesn't he have a pretty good class coming in this year or 2015?

They lost by 20 points at home against a North Texas team that ended the season below .500 in 2013. The score was 61-41 and at one point the lead was up to 30.
The previous season, they lost at home to Southern 53-51 in which they went the last 5 minutes without scoring a point (led 51-43). Southen won because they were fouled with less than 5 seconds to go and sunk both. This was with Elston Turner
Kennedy's first season, they lost to Rice by 7 points at home. The lead was as large as 15. That broke a 70+ game nonconference home win streak.
At some point, it doesn't matter how good the talent is if you're poorly coached.

Isn't that why we hired Rick Stansbury?
I am honestly not that mad. I knew it was coming, was a foregone conclusion when he wasn't fired. Non-interm coaches never have a single year left on a contract at this level.
I was wondering why it was taking so long. Can't believe BK had a lot of leverage.

Meh. Not me. I don't really know why he has failed so badly to this point because I thought he was an outstanding hire at first.
With recruiting turning in a very positive direction, my only hope is we see an improved team this year. I can see the logic for giving him a little more time and giving recruits comfort in knowing we have faith in him, but I can also see the logic in firing him.
I don't really care either way because I honestly think our record over the next 3 years would be the same regardless.

He's here to stay. If we didn't pony up the money to get Pearl, do you think we'll dump enough cash to get rid of him?

Arg, I have gotten to the point where I am starting to dislike Aggie basketball because it drives a wedge between people on here. I would hate it if I had to watch what I post here and code messages to avoid a blowup like its Texags or Shaggy or something.
Bottom line for me on both Hyman and Aggie basketball:
Hyman has had one major test since he became an AD- to prevent USC from taking our coach. He succeeded by doing something $bill would never do after the Fran debacle and made Sumlin one of the highest paid coaches in the country. This move, more than anything else, is why we will kick any arse this season and next February. We finally paid up when we needed to, overpaid even, and kept momentum at a crucial time. Hyman gets a pass for me for a long time for that.
On the flip side, I have an MBA I know how these things work. Even if we have a half billion for the stadium that doesn't change the month to month cashflow, and to make room on the payroll for a $5 million head coach we can only have one head basketball coach on there.
So if this is how we pay for football success so be it. When the SEC Network money comes we can upgrade all the Tier 3 programs, but for now we need to fill a very large stadium.

I seriously doubt Hyman was the driving force behind Sumlin's huge pay increase. I bet that was mostly big boosters.
As for the argument that we don't have enough money to pay for sumlin and a legit bball coach: the new coach would just about pay for himself by putting butts in the seats again. Our attendance has fallen about 50% since 07-08, and that's even with the myriad free/hugely discounted ticket promos that the AD has done under Kennedy. Losing 5k tickets/game + concessions + parking + all the promo losses... That's a lot of friggin money.
All for a dude that has been outcoached by army and southern and UNT.

When I first came across this thread, the only thing I could offer in response was a string of expletives. Having calmed down somewhat, are we sure that the buyout terms have increased? A cursory look at CGSC's link just shows the terms of the original contract. Has anyone seen the actual language of the extension?
I'm just hoping against hope that our AD isn't dumb enough to actually allow something like this to occur:

"The financial terms are unchanged" means the same buyout conditions, just substitute 2016 for 2013, 2017 for 2014, and 2018 for 2015.
