Vs at the game

Championship season

[back on]

off

Calzada will get the confidence he needs this week and we will face Mississippi State as a 4-0 Aggie team with momentum

I’m more concerned that King isn’t going to get the reps he needs to progress to end-of-season form. Even if Calzada can take us to wins in every game except Alabama, we are going to have an uphill battle to finish strong on the season. It is what it is. But still a pretty big setback.

I’m having difficulty understanding your point. If we finish the season 11-1 with the only loss to Alabama we will get into the playoffs this time. If our only loss in Alabama going into November there is zero chance that King starts again, the job will be Calzadas

I think his point is Calzada may be good enough to not cost us a loss vs New Mexico, Arkansas, Mizzou, & Auburn, but we'll need more out of the QB position to beat Auburn & Ole Miss. King will be like a freshman starting his 2nd game vs Auburn. Probably not what we need.

Remember in 1998 when we were facing #2 Nebraska at Kyle with McCown at QB?

70 yards later Chris Taylor is in the endzone.

71 yards later freshman RB Toombs nearly outrun everyone.

Warrick Holdman recovers fumble in endzone.

Now we are up 28-7 and the sports media is in full panic.

This defense is better than that one.

Watched the no huddle this morning. Honestly, the defense freaking took over after the 4th down stop. The last couple of drives by the offense looked better. Unsure how the season plays out but it was not all doom and gloom.

Agree with this. He got it together in the 4th. No way he is as inaccurate as he was in the 2nd and 3rd Q. That was a disaster but clearly he is better than that.

Think the game started slowing down for him by the 4th. And Jimbo is a qb whisperer.

8/14 (57%) 118 yds (8.4 per attempt) 1TD/0 INT
2 rushes for 16 yds and a fumble.

Those were his numbers in the 4th quarter. If not for the fumble, he leads 2 TD drives in the quarter. That’s solid but unspectacular IMO.

If he can produce like that AND take care of the football. We will be fine in just about every game until Alabama with our defense. Especially if we are getting M. Jackson back soon.

Things started really moving when they had to account for Calzada running, especially on 3rd down.

I think It took a bit for Calzada to get settled and once he started seeing things, the game opened up. 4th Quarter especially.

I was a big believer in Calzada and kind of wanted him to get the job, I feel like we'll know what to expect out of this season by Saturday evening

We have to look at it from the perspective of what if Calzada had been named the starter originally, King had one warm-up game and then he had a power five match up on the road. Calzada Survived a power five matchup on the road, gets a full warm-up game against a cupcake this week and then gets what has been a very bad power five opponent in Arlington.

I don’t know that we’re any worse off than if King would not have gotten hurt, we were told the quarterback competition was pretty tight

Too much talent on this team and it’s too early in the season for me to hit the panic button just yet.
Let’s see what he looks like after a week of first team reps. I liked Calzadas willingness to scramble too

This year's defense is the Wrecking Crew. Purists/nostalgia-fueled folks will disagree, but this is a modern-day WC.
