A recent article from 247 says Haynes King ran 22.1 mph during spring drills? I knew he was fast but that's NFL special teams stuff!!

He’s legit one of the fastest on the team. Achane wasn’t joking when he said he’d be running sprints and Haynes was keeping up with him.

It’s all good if he can keep his leg away from helmets

If we don't see some progress this year, I am not sure we will. I'm not saying he needs to be All SEC, but he needs to make more plays than he has been,

I know some of it was the guy throwing to him. Outside of that, route running?

The flow of the offense. Staying on the field and knowing where to be every call. Apparently, Jimbo's offense aint that simple. I think we have a shot of an offensive explosive with King and all his tools.

But can he throw while scrambling and does he have good acceleration? This is what set Manziel apart from the typical dual threat guys.

I don't think he's anywhere close to Johnny when it comes to running the ball from the QB position.

But in the limited snaps we saw (against a MAC defense), he did show nice acceleration out of a broken down pocket to escape from pressure. And he also was able to move around and hit guys in the passing game after being forced from the pocket.

Johnny's thing, same as Kyler Murray, is that they were at full speed by their 3rd step. King has more straight-line RGIII speed.

I wouldn't be so sure.

quote:

King put on a clinic over the summer between his junior and senior seasons at The Opening Finals in Frisco as he was rated by his peers as the top performer almost every day of the action and then showed elite athleticism in testing drills. King had one of the fastest 40-yard dash times of any position player, and the fastest of the quarterbacks, at a 4.52-second laser timed run. His shuttle of 4.02 seconds was one of the top five marks overall, regardless of position, and he recorded a vertical jump of 36.9 inches. He made the Elite 11 Finals.

That time would be 2nd best at the combine this year regardless of position. That is some serious change of direction and quicks.

Haynes can scramble with the best - speed wise at least. The play that he got hurt last year, he simply ran up on his blocking too fast.

I'd love for Haynes to come back and dominate like Johnny, but would that mean losing Weigman?

Yeah it wouldn't matter at that point.

Exactly! If Johnny had this defense, and Fisher's ability to coach, he would have won a title.

At this point, we need an above average QB to go with the defense. The higher up the talent level the QB is, the easier it will be to dominate opponents
