We finished #16 in the final AP poll.

-I think Jimbo has to get an A for Year 1 by this or any measure (home wins, recruiting, finally beating LSU)
-It's our 2nd best season by final rank in the last 20 years, which is a little pathetic. Or a lot pathetic I guess, but looking forward at least it shows Jimbo has a decent baseline
-Sumlin's failure still leaves a little stink on the joint, as he also had a stellar debut. Jimbo needs to respond a lot better and I'm confident he and his staff do a much better job.
-the #16 ranking should put us in the top 20 next year, which positions us well for navigating a tough schedule

Yeah. A LOT pathetic. Especially for a university that considers itself a football school. That’s actually pretty shocking. I mean I knew it wasn’t great, but damn.

I feel like our ranking is probably about right. I’d give jimbo a b+ when you factor in stumbles against auburn & state. But he exceeded even my “best case scenario” pre-season predictions. I think I had us 6-6, with a real possibility of 5-7, and an outside shot at 7-5. So to exceed that by a game, and finish with an emphatic bowl win, leaves me excited for the future.

Jimbo gets a solid B from me. The Auburn collapse prevents the B+.

Very happy with him.

I agree

No A’s for coaching that allows that Auburn collapse and loses to a Mississippi school

X2, beating two teams ranked higher is nice but losing to two ranked lower is a bummer. For year one though Jimbo exceeded my expectations, to change the culture as dramatically as he has in 12 months is pretty remarkable. He went from what KS was doing to a physical ball control offense coupled with a top 5 run D, not an easy task when inheriting someone else's players.

I’d give him a solid B+.

Finally ending the LSU streak, keeping the streaks against arky & usce, no blowout losses, top 5 recruiting class. He exceeded expectations for sure and did it with primarily players he didn’t recruit or evaluate. But agree that the miss st and auburn losses were stumbles. If he wins just one of those games I probably give him an A-.

As for our ranking, that is sad it’s our second highest finish in 20 years. What about johnny’s second year and beating duke? I know we finished ranked that year too, I guess it just wasn’t as high.

Will be nice to start next year ranked, but I honestly expect us to finish worse than this year, and I’m ok with that. All the usual sec suspects, plus Clemson and Georgia on the road.....yikes. Brutal schedule. Need to find a way to win at least 7 and not step back too far and close another good recruiting class and then see Jimbo really take some strides in 2020 and beyond.

#16 ties the 1974 team for the 19th bets season (based on the AP finish).

I give him a B+ because I can’t shake the Auburn game. No excuse for blowing that. Excited to see what next year brings. If we can go 9-4 or 10-3 then 2020 sets up to be very special

somewhere between B and B+

there are some real positive things to point to, still cant get over the auburn loss and bama destroying our recruiting class at positions of need

The AP poll is irrelevant.

The most commonly accepted/referenced ranking is irrelevant. Thanks for the valuable insight.

Regardless of wins or losses, we looked like a team ready to compete each and every game. We may have some deficiencies (secondary, pass protection, QB accuracy), but we rarely look unprepared. I think the closest we came was vs MSU/Fitz.

For me this was the second best season since I have been an A&M fan so I am tickled.

The best part is unlike 2012 it wasn’t all on the back of one or two transcendent talents that left us in a lurch when they moved on. Our signing class and keeping our DC were just as big of wins as anything on the field.

The future looks bright even if I am dreading the offseason.

Honestly if you'd told me before the season that we'd have this exact W/L record, but I would have to sub the LSU win (and the fashion in which we won) for a win vs. Auburn or State.....I'm picking the lsu win.

I'm pretty pumped about how this season went. Mainly because it seems more sustainable. Really happy we are having continuity in the coaching staff and the new tight end coach seems like he will be a good one in light of Sternberger's comments about him after he declared for the draft.
