If you actually believe this, you know very little about human nature OR linguistics.
The "more foul" the word, the greater the shock value. Sometimes one simply needs shock value. Not "always." Perhaps not even "often." But "sometimes."
If you do not grasp that concept, I might as well be talking to a rock.

No, you said you curse "as needed." My response is that it's never "needed," per se.

However, it is sometimes a very effective tool, when others have been ineffective.
I agree that it is a tool. It's efficacy can always be matched through other means, however. It is never the only way to skin the proverbial cat, even though it may be the tool of choice at the moment (again, a tool I'm not shy about using myself).
And, of course, we are both nit-picking at this point

No apologies necessary That's a long story for another thread

Idk how he put up with my shenanigans growing up without cursing a blue streak, tbh
Hope I can be half as good a parent as he if I'm blessed with kids down the road. He's my role model.

Hank, I manage and control employees and contractors from all walks of life quite effectively when one wrong move could cost 100k or more and the pressure is immeasurable. And I do it without cursing at them or belittling them. Don't blast me because you need to do so to manage effectively and stop saying it's necessary. What is necessary for YOU, is not a best practice because you have to do it.

I do interact with that bottom tier on occasion in my line of work. Sometimes a detailed, objective explanation just does not reach them. Often, they don't even understand it. But a simple, straight-forward "you really f.u.c.k.e.d up here" will get their attention and make them focus on the rest of what needs to be said ... in less-foul language.
So poor people need to be cussed at to be able to understand?
Hank, you should kick yourself in the nuts for that one.

I completely agree with Hank twice this week. He does seem like an awesome guy. Raised a cool son at least.
Hank, you might want to get yourself checked. My diet of drugs, booze and kale didn't change this week so that might be a Canary in the Coalmine for you.

My God, you truly DO NOT speak English, do you?
"For some small percentage of the population (more often poor and uneducated people than highly-educated people), the judicious use of a profane term is an effective tool to break through a layer of denial that is resistant to more genteel discussion."
What I do for a living is not remotely analogous to what you do for a living.
I deal with cases involving at least as much money as you are discussing. Additionally, I am dealing with people's lives and the lives of their children. Their emotions get involved, their pride gets involved, their positions get fixed in concrete, and they become intransigent and deaf to anything other than exactly what they want to hear. Invariably, some large percentage see themselves as being the "white hat" who does no wrong, and the opponent as being the epitome of evil incarnate. (I rather doubt that many of those issues come into play in deciding which sub-contractor to utilize).
Sometimes the use of a profanity or two breaks those impasses and gets things back on track.
I make no apologies for that fact.

I consider myself lucky because I have met his dad on several occasions and impressive is a huge understatement. I think most people would be proud if their sons turned out to be just half the man that he is.

You are becoming a demonstration in why highly educated does not always equal intelligence.
But please continue with the denial.

I am a Louisiana boy. If I don't get a little fried food and access to some substance that would piss off my local preacher/police officer every month or so I start to get grumpy. So it is just me being me.
I kinda reject the "Good for you" part though. Even though I am NOT a traditional conservative I do appreciate that part about the SEC. Sure some of the concepts, especially the social conservative stuff, seems positively ancient in the modern world but the respect for authority and fellow human beings is sometimes a very good thing.
Like that bonfire thread on tRant yesterday. No WAY that flies in the Big 12- one page in it would have been a race to Bonfire jokes or worse! Those people have little respect for a polite society that basically is at the CORE of southerness.
At the end of the day, I am a practical person. If for some people it takes conservative social pressure to keep them in the box of being a productive member of society, then I am happy for them. I would never aspire to believe that my perspective is the right one or that everyone should live like me. In fact, I am really happy everyone doesn't as that lets me be me.

I can see how Old Sarge saw your post rubbing off as 'elitist' (there's probably a better word to describe it but eh, the heck with it). You mention that for 'some', which I agree, but I would have to disagree with the 'more often poor and uneducated' part. I've met people who are extremely smart and rarely struggled in class at my time at A&M, but when it came to honest common sense they were close to handicapped. I usually found myself cussing at them for the stupidity stunts they pulled outside the classroom. It was the only way to get a point across. Honest to God, sometimes I just cussed because I was surprised at how stupid their actions sometimes were.
So the part of 'more often' is unnecessary. People of all walks in life sometimes need to be cursed at in order to receive a message. Hell, sometimes I feel like giving a piece of my mind to our government officials ( LIKE THIS). My cursing does not discriminate to race, color, sex, religion, national origin, age, disability, sexual orientation, or class (well, maybe disability I do exempt, but not the others) I'll go 'hood on yo arse' when I feel it is needed. And like you, I make no apologies for that fact

Sure enough. A lot of tsip or tsip sympathizers on the Rant. Seems like all the time you run into an Oregon fan that also likes Texas, or the piles of LSU fans that live in Texas so they are sip shirt fans. They go and read that thread on Shaggy and then try their best to fling that poo here. But they are certainly a minority, and unlike in the Big 12 their opinions about the "fake army" aren't always celebrated. Fellow
So you get the same crap, but you don't get the circlejerk factor, which means it really isn't the same crap. If that makes any sense.

This whole SEC thing can be pretty awesome sometimes.

I agree. While some of the fans at our old SWC and B12 schools could be great ... and while the SEC has its share of imbeciles ... I really believe that we traded-up (far up) on the "opposing fanbase" metric.
