Who knows what scared them off, I think the vote was fairly close. What I imagine played a big part is that various schools realized that ITSEM can probably money whip, to the 4th power, any Division II school and probably some Division I schools too.

Safety is somewhat of a concern, but very, very minimal in my opinion. I am back traveling and working in Mexico and things are much more low key than they were. The people in Monterrey, especially the ones associated with Tech, can make things 100% safe and for themselves they have. There have been some un reported "clean ups" in that area and last time I was there, about 2 months ago, the Tech area of Monterrey and the two nice parts were peachy keen.

I think some of the recruiting issues probably were a concern, as in order to be truly competitive Tech would have to recruit some American players, as would the other schools if they wanted to compete. Equally some of the US schools might also want to look at some of the Mexican players at the big HS programs around Mexico City and some of the bigger cities.

With 100+ million in population there is bound to be 50-100 kids a year that can play Division II football.

The Monterrey Tech HS team used to play the RGV schools fairly regularly and for the most part they would beat the hell out of them. Thus they quit playing them too much.

I dare say the college soccer program of D2 might have a new king if they let Monterrey Tech in.
