Wanted to say thanks for all the well wishes and advice. Night one at home was rough, but I'm still breathing. Bring on NSD. We're gonna need some extra jars!

Can we all drop the charade and do some real talk; why does all beer taste like crap? I always find it hard to believe when someone tells me that a certain beer is good. Let's face it, they all taste bad. The taste is just undesirable and always bitter (some more than others)
Don't get me wrong, I get why people drink hard liquor like Tequila (that crap makes you feel like you're floating when you walk ). But for casual drinkers who just drink beer, what's the deal? Do you really think beer tastes better than a Mountain Dew or a Dr. Pepper???
Discuss...

Yes I am an alcoholic in recovery and I drank like I ment it but I drank beer for the taste and whiskey to get drunk. There are several different flavors/ types of beer some taste like arse and some taste great.

How old are you? Try different kinds until you find what you like. If you don't like them, then try wines or liquors.
No not all beer tastes like crap. Everyone has different tastes. Personally, I prefer a balanced beer or something favoring malt. All of the unbalanced hop beers do taste like crap to me, but that's why they make so many different kinds.

But I'm just talking about beer here. I get that wine and wine coolers taste a lot better, but beer doesn't. Budweiser, Coors, Miller, Corona, Modelo, Guinness (big time disgusting as soon as it starts warming up), and basically every other major beer out there does not taste better than Pepsi........ And I fricking hate Pepsi.
Lager, Ale, Pilsner...they all just don't have a desirable taste. I'm not saying they are all incredibly disgusting, but offer me Dr. Pepper or a beer and I take the Dr. Pepper every time.
So can someone steer me towards a beer that tastes good? Natty Lite need not apply.

Try using ciders to transition, it helps some people.

I liked Shiner Blonde and Shiner Klotsch (sp) but there are so many different kinds you just got to try them. Shiner Black Lager is also good. I liked Coors as well. Like I said go to a bar that has more than 4 beers on tap and try them.

You have to tell us what you like. Everyone is different. I prefer stouts and porters in general, but many people hate them. From your quick descriptions it sounds like you may want something sweet. If what you've listed is all that you have tried, then yes I'll agree that stuff tastes like crap.

Leinekugels does a pretty good job with citrus/fruit etc flavored beers without going too far. Not a bad starting point.

There's plenty of good beers out there if you're willing to try.
My top 5: (Yes, I know it's all over the place)
1. Guinness Draught
2. St. Pauli Girl
3. Real Ale's Fireman's 4
4. PBC's Lobo Texas Lager
5. Good Ole Texan Shiner Bock
Celebratory Beer: Arrogant Bastard Ale
Also, I tried New Republic's Sweet Potato Porter at HEB today, it was pretty good.

The Traveler family of beers is a good starter too. Others I like:
Heavy Seas
Devils backbone
Hell or high watermelon
Dominion stout
I hated beer at first. Thought exactly what you posted. But. Grew to love it.

In college I used to think exactly the same way. I thought beer was awful and couldn't understand how it was popular.
Then I went on a trip to Germany and tried some sweeter wheat beers like Franciskaner. I liked them enough to keep drinking them. Then I transitioned to more bitter beer, and now I'm very fond of a lot of IPAs. Same went for wine, started with Rieslings, now I drink mostly red.
The best way I can put it is that you get used to less and less sugar, like drinking unsweetened tea. I'll have a beer or two with dinner, and feel nothing, and stop. I just like the taste now.

I tried that one. A bit too strong on the flavor side.
I've tried most of the major brands and can't find myself enjoying them. It still dumbfounds me as to why people like popular brands such as Bud Light and Miller. The taste is just...bleh!
frick it, I'm sticking with whine coolers. Don't care if theyre bitch drinks...at least I'll enjoy them. And Tequila too because......

Let's be honest. When you drink those, you're not really drinking them for the flavor.
