Ah okay I didn't know that. They barely sign Texas players anymore. I don't know if that's by design or not, but it's really strange.

Back in the early-mid 2000s it seems like they were always signing big time classes and contending for every major TX recruit

There are more mouths to feed with Baylor and TCU being legit and us finally having a semi competent recruiting staff but still

2015 Playoffs Teams - Classes the last 4 years (15, 14, 13, 12)
Bama - 1, 1, 1, 1 AVG = 1
Clemson - 9, 17, 15, 15 AVG = 14
Mi State - 22, 25, 35, 33 AVG = 29
Oklahoma - 14, 14, 16, 12 AVG = 14
Texas A&M - 11, 5, 9, 16 AVG = 10

You don't have to have a top 5 class to be elite. We probably need to be higher than 18 consistently, but finishing where we did it not going to doom us.

Finally got around to watching some Chattman video. Hard to tell much about his coverage skills as a DB. He's a rangy 6'4" kid, who is pretty good in run support and coming up to make the stop one on one on WR screens. The ball carrier goes backward once he makes the hit.

I expect him to start out at SS or nickel, but a potential LB once he fills out. He's probably rated lower due to needing to show improvement in coverage skills as a DB. But I see why A&M and FSU liked him as a prospect.

Strong got Cuffee, because A&M wouldn't take his commitment when he tried to commit during his official. The same thing happened with Chris Daniels. A&M didn't want to take his commitment either because they didn't have many scholarships available and had higher priority targets. Things changed down the stretch for Cuffee as Greedy, Eric Monroe, and Fulton were no longer options.

Daniels became a late target once the athletic department, that supposedly forces players onto the field too early after injury, refused to wave Justin Manning and allow him back onto the team.

No I don't think it did, consistent classes like that with this staff though is what worries me. I don't have a lot of faith in our actual X's and O's ability, but that will sort itself out.

You can get by with those types of classes that OU and MSU have in their conferences also. I think it's much harder in our conference

Damn. The 2016 team has to be the most talented one at A&M in decades.

Not really. Deficient at key positions.

Most talented teams by unit:

QB - 2013
RB - 1993
WR/TE - 2016
OL - 2011
DL - 1992
LB - 1991
DB - 1991

The 1998 team was FAR more talented. The following starters AND BACKUPS would start on our 2016 squad:

QB - Randy McCown
QB - Branndon Stewart
RB - Dante Hall
RB - Sirr Parker
WR - Chris Cole
TE - Derrick Spiller
TE - Dan Campbell
C - Seth McKinney
OL - Chris Valetta
OL - Semisi Heimuli
OL - Rex Tucker
OL - Moses Valikihi
DL - Rocky Bernard
LB - Dat Nguyen
LB - Warrick Holdman
DB - Jason Webster
P - Shane Lechler

If we're talking in terms of recruiting rankings, which we are, this is the most talented since they started doing that sort of thing

Around here, recruiting rankings ONLY MATTER IF YOU ARE ATTACKING THE TEAM OR COACHES

Otherwise they are meaningless numbers

It's worth remembering here that our 2013 class looked great on paper according to the recruiting services, but in reality has almost been a bust. So I'm not gonna declare our future a lost cause.

I think it's a solid group of players with several being versatile enough to play in different positions. This kind of versatility helps in filling holes in the depth chart. I don't really have any objections to the players taken.

The problem is we just needed a couple more players to ensure depth at some positions, such as another player on the DL. Although if Moton gets in, that will help alleviate this concern. Has Moton's test situation worked out?

It would also be nice if Jay Bradford can return to the game. But I haven't seen anything about that, one way or the other.

He takes it this weekend and he passed a practice test earlier this week.

Hopefully it's like the ASVAB, where applicants typically do 10-15 points better than their practice test score.

Well, that's good if he is handling the practice exam. Sounds like this will happen for him.

There is an OL out there, maybe a grad transfer, that we offered today. Tyler Catalina.

Apparently, Georgia, Auburn, Florida and Penn State have offered him. But he hasn't yet signed with anyone yet. I hadn't heard of him visiting yet, so who knows about this one. We definitely have some holes on the OL to fill. I'm guessing he is looking at where he has the best chance to start.

We've added players after signing day before, such as Hubenak. And we've also accepted transfers, such as Carson and Ford. I don't know the exact number be we likely have a few spots available for "a player to be named later."

You are correct, but we will still be behind LSU, Bama, and Auburn talent wise. 247 has a nice link, which shows you the talent your teams. In 2015 we were #10 and we only had 78 players. We lost to 2 teams less talented than us (Ole Miss and Louisville), but we didn't have the assistance of many players when we played them (Allen, Murray, Alaka, Bradford, Davis, Ford, Willis, Knight, and we had several redshirts).
