As usual I don't agree with the illustrious committee's selections but it's college baseball and I've grown accustomed to their stupid shite.

Ross Stripling weighs in on pitching backwards with lowly TSU in game one.

I really think we NEED to start Kent Friday. We're going to score. They can't defend (worse than us) and they don't have good pitching. A lefty would help deal with their insane base running and Kent's stuff is usually (Vandy is the exception) good enough to shut down lower level, but he has trouble with better teams.

You sure have that fella worked into a frenzy over there

They're more pumped about us not getting a national seed than we would be if we did get one.
And I guess we know our pitching situation now.

Can I ask a stupid question without being judged?
Admittedly, I don't follow college baseball nearly as closely as I did in college in the late 90's, and I know the playoff structure has changed some.
But what is the significance of a National seed? Does it determine who you get in your regional?

It's all about playing at home. If any of the top 8 win the regional they are hosting, then the super-regional best-of-three is also played on their home field. There's nothing magic about being a national seed with who goes where, other than they try to balance things out as you'd expect.
This year there's a possible wrench in the works with Missouri State, who plays on the home field of the AA Springfield Cardinals. That team has a home series scheduled for the super-regional weekend, so if MSU wins their regional something's gotta give.
I'm afraid all the anger over not making the top 8 is setting Aggie fans up for a huge fall in game 3. We'll see.

First basically nailed it.
If you win the regional, you host a 3 game series (super regional) and it guarantees you do not face one of the "top 8" teams until Omaha.

Thanks, both of you. Like I said, it's been a while since I've paid attention and couldn't remember how the supers were determined.
I just read Beergut's current blog on the subject; the Missouri State thing is interesting.

Grayson Long made Louisville Slugger 3rd Team All American.
Anyone going to the regional? I picked up 2 all season passes. I'll be there Friday night and again Saturday (night assuming we win). I'm still working out plans to go Sunday. And I hope we aren't playing on Monday.

I guess Louie either took that quote out of context or Childress changed his mind. Your game 1 starter is Matt Kent.

Great decision, I think. Texas Southern is #2 in the country in stolen bases with only 48 games played. A lefty will definitely help here. Plus we save Long for the winner's bracket game.

Can he paint the corners like a Rembrandt?

That's what he's known for, I think. Actual baseball smart guys might have a better answer. He gets a lot of batters chasing pitches they shouldn't. He gets hit a fair amount, but usually bouncing ground balls or easy flies.

He doesn't have overpowering heat. He doesn't have the big breaking ball / slider to dominate the lefty-lefty match up. I actually think lefties hit him better than righties. He gives a steady diet of junk and needs to stay ahead of the count and keep people guessing to be effective. He did this perfectly vs Vandy.

Idk, I've just been looking for an excuse to use that made up expression ever since that stupid car commercial came out.
