Are you kidding me?
Edit... it's okay to throw in OT from that same spot. You can't make this up. Really tough when your players have to overcome coaching, time management, and play calling.

Told wife before the game I wanted the ugliest most embarrassing win possible. Nailed it.

It made me mad but I get the logic. He didn't want a true freshman to be forced to make a play to win in regulation b/c he knew that Arky's kicking game is so bad they were probably going to have to go for the TD every possession in OT.
It took balls b/c the entirety of Aggieland would have been going nuts had we lost but it ended up working.

place kicking is such a thankless job

He should have spiked the ball, which is what bothers me more. Mond absolutely could have gotten sacked there, I don't mind the fg, but that should have been a spike with 2-3 throws to the endzone. Dunno if that was on Mond or Sumlin...probably Sumlin.

I don't follow.
Mond wouldn't have been forced to make a play, the option to kick is still there if he manages the clock correctly. A turnover would have been the same result there as it was when we threw in OT.

I wouldn’t have trusted Mond to do that. Would have been nice to get a spike then run then TO, but there’s risk to that too.
In the end, it was the right call and you have to give credit where credit is due. We could have folded like we did against UCLA and didn’t.

A turnover in regulation is game over. A turnover in OT would have still at least given us a chance. A slim distinction admittedly, but worth noting.
The clock was more important. Given our skill sets and TO situation, it would be obvious we’re passing, and on a short field. In OT, we’re working with more field and it opens the run game. We were able to utilize our full offense rather than risk the whole game on our true freshman QB who has taken some foolish risks on throws inside.

In regulation mond can take a shot and fall back on a short fg to tie it. It's essentially OT but you went second and held arky to a fg.

It's still not the same because in regulation, we're forced to rely on Mond to throw a quick pass that they know is coming.
