Who is our competition during this coaching search?

McElwain should win enough to be safe this year, and has a ~15m buyout.

Gus probably has the second best team in the West, and likely wins enough to be retained.

Aggies are an unknown, but with the state of the West it's not unreasonable that they win 8-9 and he is retained.

Brian Kelly appears to have ND humming and likely isn't going anywhere.

LSU and Texas are off the board.

Surely there is no way we frick up this coaching search when we have next to no competition this time.

Jim Mora will probably get fired but UCLA should not be able to compete with Tennessee for a football coach

If Chip is the main target then I could see it, but anyone else yeah there should be no competition.

God we have it so fricking easy this time around I almost think it's impossible we don't walk out with a very good hire

Agreed. This has to be the best opportunity in history for Tennessee to strike big in a coaching search. I know Dickey left the program in great shape but I don't know how coaching searches went in 1970 lol.

The state of the program combined with the lack of competition is so much better than 2008 cleaning up and following behind Phil, 2010 hiring a coach 2 weeks before NSD, and 2012 coming into a total rebuild behind Dooley. And it always seems like when we are in a search, so are a bunch of other really good programs

I would think Chip would still favor the west coast school there, knowing that his system has run train in the Pac12 before. Not a "no question" sort of situation, but just my gut take...

For any other "high take" coach though, I'd have to assume that you guys would be the front runners from a destination standpoint unless something unexpected happens between now and the end of the season. Definitely not a bad year to have a coaching search based on current trajectories... biggest question is who will be around to grab.

Absolutely no legitimate reason to frick up this coaching hire. I just hope certain boosters don't get in the way. Someone might need to kidnap Natalie Haslam to ensure success.

I'd be really surprised if Sumlin get another year

Does he have a ridiculous buyout or am I making that up? Hopefully they get some unexpected wins.

He wins 8 games I don't see A&M making a move, especially if that freshman QB continues to improve

It's at least $10m, payable in 60 days iirc.
