UT Chancellor issues statement on Butch Jones allegations

University of Tennessee-Knoxville Chancellor Jimmy Cheek said Thursday he’s “confident” that there has been “no inappropriate conduct with any players or coaches” in the Vols football program.
Speculation in the past week has focused on a potential incident between Tennessee head coach Butch Jones and one of his players — fifth-year senior offensive lineman Mack Crowder — during a preseason camp practice, but Cheek said during UT’s annual Board of Trustees meeting that he and athletic director Dave Hart have done their “due diligence” into the matter and found nothing substantial.
“There’s been a lot of rumor and misinformation on social media and message boards about an alleged incident during football practice,” Cheek said during the meeting. “It’s not our practice to respond to rumors, but I thought it was important to let you know that we’ve done our due diligence and Dave Hart and I are very confident there was no inappropriate conduct with any players or coaches.”
Multiple Tennessee program sources told GoVols247 on Thursday that Tennessee officials have spoken to Jones, as well as other coaches and players in the program, and to this point have uncovered no proof of any inappropriate behavior.

The dumbass reporter who brought this up without even an allegation save from a freaking messageboard after a tough loss ought to be punched. In all seriousness, the whole mess has bordered on slander/libel and been downright embarrassing for everyone involved including the university. This bullshite hurts the program and the very real people in our program.

He said he had two sources but then a bunch of posters on there acted like they heard the same thing too and they kept badgering him to ask Butch at the next PC. Sure enough, Stokes asked Butch the following day about the rumors. Everyone scolded him and let him know they were just joking afterwards. He hasn't posted much since

I saw that a few days ago but even he isn't saying Jones hit and abused players. He said if Jones never crossed a line then Rose never bet on baseball. Then both him and Posey (Alan Posey if you don't know was the 'source' for most of this) both went private on twitter. Bet anything they're trying to scrub some of their posts although their posts were a whole lot of nothing but innuendo and noise.
FWIW, Crowder has said nothing happened and wants Vol Nation to move on.

The only fire was an everyday incident that a third party tried to make into something there wasn't. There was a heated practice but that's it. Posey or some other party but likely Posey from everything I've heard tried to make it something it wasn't. Every legit reporter and insider has debunked this nonsense.

And? That dude is fishing. Look I get you want changes but this story is bullshite and was from the start. Give me one source on record? That Cincy guy isn't naming names, isn't describing an incident but IS just pissing in the wind. If Butch was an evil mofo at Cincy why'd Abernathy transfer to UT and his younger brother sign with us? You'd think a former Cincy player and his brother would avoid him but they didn't - they couldn't wait to get here.

To be fair, I have no problem with asking the question. But you can't write an article accusing Butch Jones of something without facts. Just posting gossip in an article like it is a message board is a little ridiculous.
