Hopefully other Mizzou fans with access will chime in on our team...

Missouri Stengths

- Offensive Line
- Running Backs
- Run Defense
- WR Emmanuel Hall & TE Albert O.
- Team Physicality

Missouri Weaknesses

- Defensive Backfield
- In-Game Coaching

Overview: The biggest change from the Josh Huepel offense to the Derek Dooley offense is attitude in the running game. They can push people around and have had general success doing so.

Drew Lock hasn't elevated his game to another level as a senior which is part of the reason Mizzou has had trouble closing games out. As has been the case throughout his 4 years, his wide receivers (save Hall) haven't done him any favors consistenly dropping multiple easy catches per game.

WR Emmanuel Hall is the key to our offense. When he's been healthy the offense elevates from decent to dangerous. His speed and sure hands usually result in several chunk plays per game and force defenses to account for him. Our only other viable receiving threat is TE Albert O. who is currently dealing with a (likely) partially separated shoulder and is probably doubtful for this game.

On defense, the days of DLineZou went out the door with Craig Kuligowski so pressuring the quarterback has become spotty and left our already questionable safties and corners vulnerable. If you have a quarterback who can accurately and consistently deliver a 10 yard or better pass, your offense could and should have a big day.

If you don't have a competent QB, Mizzou will pack the box and focus on stopping the run with all eleven. This difference has been highlighted in spades all year - UK and UF had substandard QBs and the defense feasted. Purdue, Georgia, Carolina and Bama were balanced and their QBs had field days.

A consistent hallmark of this team (and the two preceding it) has been poor in-game management and clock manangement by Barry Odom. The Kentucky game was lost due to 1) not forcing UK to burn all their timeouts in our last offensive series, and 2) playing passive defense and allowing the incompetent QB Terry Wilson to run the length of the field in a minute and a half.

Another pattern of this team has been the inabilty to close out games. Four games have been decided on the final play, so if you don't allow Mizzou to bury you in the first half chances are it will go down to the wire with a coin flip outcome.

I'd love to hear any UT'ers analysis of their squad.

Thanks for the access to your board.

Didn’t read but I think Mizzou wins the match this Saturday.

I have turned my attention to HOOPS and cheating on the cruitin trail.

I think mizzu beats us. our secondary is trash, and lock will light it up. We beat vandy and get a bowl though

I'm getting greedy. VOLS need to get off to a good start in this one, like the Auburn game and then have the Sand Mountain Savior's D take over in the 2nd half.

Plus, Dooley is the OC and surely, Pruitt and his army of analysts know what he is going to do.

VOLS win out, finish 7-5, 4-4 and Big Phil strongarms the SEC into an Outback Bowl bid.

Good write up -- Appreciate you sharing your thoughts. I'm not really sure what to expect at this point coming off the UK win.

Our offense has had some success in 3 out of our last 4 SEC games against AU, USC & UK with the lone bad performance coming against Alabama. Guarantano is doing a good job getting of the ball to his playmakers despite a rough OL performance on the year.. so that will be interesting to see how we match up against your DL. Callaway, Jennings, Palmer & Murphy will be the 4 receivers that we'll try and consistently get the ball to with Chandler and Jordan getting most of the touches at RB. The skill players have done a good job of making plays when the OL can buy enough time for Guarantano to cleanly get the ball out, but the OL has been very inconsistent. If you can consistently get pressure on the QB that will make for a long game on our end.

Defensively we seem to be picking up the scheme at this point in the season and subsequently played our best game last Saturday against UK. Granted against an offense that's 180 degrees different from what you guys will be running. Our freshman CBs have been playing surprisingly well on the season, but Lock and his arm make me nervous. I would imagine we'll try and bring some pressure on Lock with the front 7 to make him uncomfortable to help our secondary out, but I'm not sure it's enough. Your OL is tough and playing well.

Not sure how to call this one or what to expect for a guess at the final score, but I think it'll be a good game on a Saturday slate that looks pretty atrocious.

Numbers by category:

Missouri: 70th nationally

Run defense:
Missouri: 30th nationally

Tennessee:100th nationally (yikes)

Passing offense:
Missouri: 26th nationally
Tennessee: 88th nationally

Rushing offense:
Missouri: 44th nationally
Tennessee: 104th nationally (yikes)

Sacks:
Tennessee: 63rd nationally with 21
Missouri: 95th nationally with 17

TFL:
Tennessee: 77th nationally with 57
Missouri: 85th nationally with 54

Turn over margin:
Tennessee: 49th nationally at +2
Missouri: 90th nationally at -3

In short, your Offense looks much better than ours and our defense looks to be better than yours up to this point.

I think it’ll be key for us to be able to consistently get pressure on Lock, we have had moments these last couple games where the QB was under fire but also too many times when he had all day. I don’t think the back end of our D can hold up to Lock having all day

I think our offensive stats are a little misleading. We're bad but I don't think we're quite that bad. We're certainly not as awful as last year but if you looked at stats alone those two O's would look similar. If OL pulls another rabbit out of its hat and plays the way they did against UK then we have a chance.

JG can sling it and our WRs and TEs are coming along really well. (They're starting to look better than they have in years despite the fact that we haven't thrown as much as we should).

My problem is I don't have much faith in the OL yet and until I feel confident in them it's hard to feel confident in the O. Everything flows through them.

Agreed -- We have a good QB & group of skill players. Gotta find a way to string together two more good performances from the OL

When I was scanning stats I noticed that we're actually 25th in passing efficiency despite being 88th in passing offense. We don't throw enough (and in some ways I think that's been strategic to help out the D and keep JG in one piece because he will take a hit to give his guy a chance to get open) but when we do throw, we've been very efficient at it.

Agreed -- JG is slanging that tater when we do throw. The deep passes early on 1st down lately have been a breath of fresh air. Also nice to see Murphy hit on some of those splash plays last week.

Hoping for another big week from the front 7. We're gonna need to pressure Lock and make him uncomfortable as much as possible

JG has been one of the few constants this season. Otherwise, this team has been so raw and inconsistent it's been really hard to predict how they'll perform from week to week. I certainly never expected our defense to take Kentucky to the woodshed the way they did or for our OL to have as good of a game against a good DL as they did. And yeah, Murphy was brilliant on a few plays -- we're developing some serious deep threats at WR and have the QB we need to get it downfield.

If Taylor, Bituli, Tuttle and company can muster a repeat performance things will be a lot harder on Lock and easier on our secondary. That said, our corners have improved significantly since WVU and we should have all of them ready to go. I think it's unavoidable that Mizzou is going to pick up some yardage through the air but we can do a better job limiting it than we would've at the beginning of the year.

With Kentucky the D could lock in on the run and focus on shutting it down but with Mizzou we have to be able to play with intensity while being aware that they can get yards both on the ground and through the air.

That's a good way to summarize everything. Getting Abernathy and Flowers back is big, but will it be enough? Just saw that UT is 4th in the SEC in interceptions and should likely be several spots higher if not for some big drops from Warrior

It honestly feels like we've had more INTs this season than we did the entire time CBJ was here.

You should be in line for a great day on offense then.

It's not like Mizzou can't pressure the QB, but it's nowhere near like pre-Odom years.

Any pressure we do get is from up the middle, nothing from the outsides.

Mizz guys -- Are all 3 of these players starters for you? What level of impact does this have on your side of the aisle going into the game if any?

Edit: Looks like Albert O is a pretty big loss for you guys.
