I was thinking about it and wondering (since we are going on 19 years without an SEC Championship) how does our current drought compare with prior dry spells. In chronological order:

1933-1938 - 5 seasons
1941-1949 - 8 seasons (no games played in 43)
1952-1955 - 5 seasons
1957-1966 - 10 seasons
1968 - 1 season
1970-1985 - 15 seasons
1986-1988 -3 seasons
1991-1996 - 6 seasons
1999-present - 18 seasons

The current spell is the longest UT has gone without a conference championship since the formation of the SEC in 1933.

Tennessee has avoided a real downer period really ever. That is the key. We had the '07 SECCG in the bag and gave it away. Or Eric Ainge did.

The talk on the Rant about UF and AD Foley says a lot. Hiring that frick Hamilton in 2003 was a key bad thing.

It's just absolutely maddening, that is what it is. We should win at least one SEC title a decade. That isn't crazy to ask for imo at a place like UT

Only way to spin it right now is at least the SEC isn't as deep as it has been in the recent past coaching wise minus Alabama. And thankfully the general explosion of the state of Tennessee that has lead to the population explosion and made the state generally a highly desirable place to live within the US has created a very strong in state talent base that was not previously there in generations past.

Now we just need to win the new generation of Tennesseans hearts and minds with a good run.
