“It’s politics as usual with people inside that make decisions – and it’s more political decisions than what’s best for the athletic department,” Kiner told Saturday Down South. “If the university is going to do what is best for the athletic program, Phillip Fulmer should be the athletics director. End of conversation.

“I don’t know why they ever let Coach Fulmer go as a head coach – it’s beyond me. It’s one of the dumbest things and the football program is still paying for it.”

Kiner played alongside Fulmer at Tennessee. Kiner played for the Big Orange from 1966-1969 and Fulmer, a guard, played from 1968-1971.

“Fulmer was a sophomore when I was a senior,” Kiner said. “Phillip was a good guy, a stand up guy. I thought it was a mistake when they asked him to step down and I would love to see Phillip get the athletics director job.”

So would I. Anything else is nuts especially with the SJW as Chancellor.

UT fricks everything else up, so hiring Fulmer over Blackburn seems like the logical move.

They should give me their money so that I can make better decisions for them.

Oh Geez.

What -exactly- do you not like about hiring Coach Fulmer?

Because we lost to Wyoming?

For me...hiring someone with no experience as an AD over someone with a proven track record in that position is the issue. Experience in coaching does not equate to anything you can point to as an AD. Why take a risk with an unknown, when you have a candidate that has the resume that exactly matches your job description?

Especially given that if you went with Blackburn you could still likely get Fulmer in a Head of FB Operations position.

Exactly, Blackburn should be the head guy and he would undoubtedly tap Fulmer for a position

Fulmer hired horrible assistants as HC so why not put him in charge of every hire in the AD?!?!?

Who besides that Clawson guy?

Fulmer's fortunes diminished when Coach Cut wasn't on the staff.

LET PHIL BE PHAT!!!
