First off, bear with me, its a bit long winded.
A close friend of mine who I met in Iraq is a huge UT fan. He is from, lives in, and is currently stationed in Nebraska. He drove down for the Fla/UT game this year. He is a bright beacon of orange in a sea of red.
We have remained close ever since Iraq and visit most every year.
When it was announced that UT was going to the MCB and was going to play NEB he literally bought 12 tickets within minutes of them going on sale.
He didn't know who was going with him, but was sure he could find someone.
He brought 11 people from Neb and has had shite talked to him every hour of every day.
I purchased 2 tickets in the row behind him for me and the wife to attend. We were all seated together in the endzone just a half dozen rows from the field.
We met up the day before and did the pub crawl thing Thursday. Lots of shite talking but nothing too bad, just good natured fun.
We tailgated game day and lots of Jack Daniels, Yeungling and cooked animal flesh was consumed prior.
The smack talk began to heat up accordingly.
One guy in particular took issue with Dobbs. He took every opportunity to put him down.
"He's never lived up to expectations"
"He is a shitty QB"
"He has lost all these games for you cause he sucks"
"He cant throw at all and he's an over rated runner"
"Our black shirts are going to murder him"
This guy was sitting almost directly in front of me during the game.
Game time...
Dobbs scores his touchdowns in our end zone, right in front of us. Almost all the action that occurred happened where we had a clear view. I literally couldn't have scripted it better.
Every time Dobbs would run or make a play, especially with his feet I'd tap him on the shoulder and say
"That's why we love Dobbs"
I must have said that phrase 20 times to him, he was ready to fight by halftime.
I switched it up in the second half to "Don't worry, the other SEC teams cant usually do any better either"
Second half it got worse for him. He had his glimmer of hope when it was within 7 but you all know what happened shortly after with a 59yarder to Malone.
The final straw was when I pointed out he was 3/0 now vs the B10 This guy was in college football hell and I loved it.
Overall it was a great time, the crowd was really into it. The players did react to the crowd.
When DB got his sack the stadium erupted and was chanting his name.
The crowd was chanting for Dobbs at one point too.
Getting to see Dobbs lead the band one more time was great, the crowd chanted for DB to get up there with Dobbs and he did for just a bit. I have some really good memories of these guys and it was good to see them go out like this.
We went out on the town that night and everyone was happy and had a good time, except for one guy who sulked most of the night. My buddy is going to have one hell of a good drive home and his life is going to be fine for the foreseeable future back in Neb.

Awesome. Nebraska fans were pretty good over all.
I wasn't excited about the game but was glad I went. Hopefully Butch and the Administration can get on the same page.

Love it! Thanks for taking the time to write that up and share it with us. It was bittersweet watching Dobbs and Barnett play their final game as Vols but wow did they give us a final game to remember. Their individual performances were absolutely flawless.

Watching the team celebrate with Barnett after he broke the record was priceless. A lot of great moments during this season i.e Jennings burning Tabor, Kamara's entire game against aTm, the Dobbnail boot.
It might have been tainted by the Vandy and USCe games, but I still enjoyed it. Looking forward to next season regardless of what our outlook might be.
