3rd gang related murder over the last few weekends.

At least double that amount of people have been shot, but came away with non life threatening injuries.

Mechanicsville/Lonsdale neighborhoods vs The East side neighborhoods has turned into a shite show. Those parts of town have always been rough, but it's turned into a little war zone recently. Sad, RIP to the kid from Fulton HS who was gunned down while shielding 3 girls from gun fire last night.

FWIW, It sounds like somebody retaliated almost immediately, as the main guy(1 of 3) behind the shooting on the kid from Fulton was gunned down and murdered in his own car about 4 hours later.

I'm a little less than 5 miles away from the first shooting. Hope they get this shite cleaned up

We just moved to North Knox from the Cedar bluff area not to long ago. We love it out here, but it's definitely a big change of pace from West Knox.

I lived in Hardin Valley for a few years during my junior and senior years of HS. I enjoy that part of town. Not crazy on how expensive it is though. Did they finish those apartments on top of the hill on the left hand side of Pellissippi(going towards Oak Ridge) as you're about to get off the Hardin Valley Rd exit?

Gang problems here in Chatt can get pretty bad too, but ever since the terrorist shooting back in the summer (shooter actually drove right past my neighborhood) we haven't had many if any shootings around here.

Jeez, based on my limited experiences in Knoxville with an SO who went to Bearden and fmaily is in Farragut, I'd no idea there were even "bad areas" in Knoxville.

But Baton Rouge LOLs at only 3 gang related murders, unfortunately.

Bearden and Farragut are considered the burbs more than anything. Out of the 2, only Bearden has part of it's zoning actually in Knoxville city limits. All of Farragut and part of Bearden would be considered Knox county.

The rougher parts of town are all almost entirely going to be within city limits. Everything East of Downtown, almost everything on the western section of the inner city (Ironically enough these are the two big areas constantly shooting at each other) and pockets of North and South Knox proper. The East side is made up mostly of Blood sets and the Western section of the inner city are made up of crip neighborhoods. Thats why most of the shoot outs lately have been happening between kids from these 2 parts of the city.

Out of the 13 public HS in Knoxville, 4, maybe 5 pull kids from the inner city or parts of town that are rough or have tracts of Public housing/projects located in their zoning. Austin East, Fulton, Central and West (Central & West being kind of a mixed bag -- pulls from good and bad areas of the city) You might be able to add South Doyle to that list due to their zoning pulling kids from the Montgomery Village projects and Vestal area (Which isn't terrible). South Doyle typically isn't lumped together with the 4 HS I mentioned above though.

Then you have West Knox (Bearden, Hardin Valley, Farragut, and Karns) and parts of North (Powell, Halls, Gibbs, and Fountain City) which seem like another world away.

Knoxville is a pretty big city - just under a million metro (yes, that includes the outskirts like Blount county, but then so does Atlanta's 6 million or bham's 1 million plus)

In fact, I think Knoxville is Tennessee's 3rd largest metro area - 1. Nashville 2 Memphis 3. Knoxville 4. Chattanooga 5. Jackson

NOBODY is surprised by the bad areas of Chattanooga... Knoxville is at least twice as big as Chattanooga.

Yeah, city limits Knoxville and city limits Chattanooga are very comparable. I think Knoxville may have roughly 10kish more people than Chatt, but Knox County is considerably larger than Hamilton County and the Knox Metro is much larger than the Chatt metro.

However, the demographic breakdown is very different between the 2 cities. I think that's why people aren't as surprised by Chatt having more gang problems than Knoxville. Just my 2 cents

not even a little bit

dcbl, I ment to add Jackson metro is behind The Tricities and Clarksville as far as population earlier too. I'd say Jackson falls behind those 2 maybe 1 more.
