I am not as knowledgeable about the development of players as some of the folks here- V&S, Prof, etc.

But wasn't it thought that Drew Richmond would be an impact player day 1?

With the problems on the O-Line, we have seen both Jack Jones and Chance Hall come in and play. Is Richmond simply not as good as those two at this point, or is Butch trying to keep another year of eligibility and red shirt him?

I watched him in the spring game and he was getting mauled pretty bad. He's redshirting for more time to develop would be my guess.

He's going to be a good player and should battle with Kendrick for a starting tackle job next year. He needed a year to add some strength.

Jack Jones and Chance Hall have both performed better than anyone would have predicted. I believe this, along with the fact that Richmond still needs time to develop both mentally and physically, has resulted in a RS for him.

Look at it as a positive. Starting next season, we should really be able to start redshirting talented guys. Talented 5th year seniors is a luxury we have not had in years.

He needs a redshirt. He's still got muscle to add but he has the tools. Hall and Jones are anomalies as far as true froshies go but IIRC they were also both EEs.

Also, I think Chance Hall will be our RT next year and Richmond will be at LT. Redshirting an LT is best - he needs strength and training and Kerby may not be a natural LT but you'd never know it by how he's played this year. He's found a way to make it work.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him drafted at his natural position OG but even if he isn't. He will play in the NFL, imo.

I just don't think Kendrick is any good. He may improve still (Kerby did and by a lot) but Kendrick's just not very good right now and gets blown by way too often. It's one thing to get beat (I can live with that) but Kendrick might as well not exist on the field much of the time. He at least needs to get in the way/offer resistance more often.

Exactly. Hall and Jones have been here since January. While both are talented, they benefited from going through an entire S&C program. Richmond has only been here since July. He will be fine once he goes through an entire offseason program. Him redshirting is a positive in my opinion. It will pay dividends down the road.

Good point. I forgot about that too.

Hall likely starts at one tackle spot, but I don't think Jones will start. He has been far worse than Robertson (when healthy) and Wiesman when he's been out there this year. Played a really bad game at Alabama. Probably more of a swing guy next year.

From what I have heard Boulware is much further ahead of Richmond among the redshirts. I think Boulware will be in the mix at guard as well. Richmond, if he does not transfer, will probably be the 3rd tackle next year.

In talking to a walk-on offensive linemen Kendrick graded out far higher at tackle than Hall has (at least through the first 2 games, I don't know how Hall graded out last night) and Richmond is miles behind both. Obviously Hall has more room to grow, but I think Kendrick will definitely start when he comes back.

Kendrick/Richmond or Blair
Robertson/Boulware or Mosley
Thomas/Wiesman
Wiesman/Jones
Hall/Richmond or Blair

would be my best guess at the 8 man o-line rotation next year.

At least we will finally have bodies there next year. Oline should be improved, let the cream rise to the top.
