The horror of knowing 9 wins and competing for the division just once every 4 or 5 years is your ceiling. The horror of watching the school honor on the field the 1967 national championship team and knowing the buffoon you currently have on the sidelines will not even get you close to competing for one of those. But continue to be excited about that scintillating 17-13 win over the great power UMass. Also realize we were a missed extra point on their part and a field goal that I'm not convinced we made on our part from having to go to overtime...with UMass...on our home field. Derek Dooley had a similar escape game, when we beat that other powerhouse in Troy, 55-48. 2 games later, Vanderbilt whipped us and Mr. Dooley was shown the door.

You have a great point...if you lower your expectations, then you are much less likely to be disappointed. Which is why:
Bama should have stuck with Shula;
Clemson should have stuck with Tommy West;
Oklahoma should have stuck with John Blake;
Washington should have stuck with Ty Willingham...hell...he never should have gone to Washington because Notre Dame never should have let him go.
Same could be said for other situations.. that worked out just great

How many coaches have michigan, miami and notre dame went through. You are more likely to miss than hit on a coaching hire unless you have someome in place and ready. See lsu last year, they panicked and ended up with someone worse.

Well, yeah...looking at trends is convenient.

Na, but overall record does. Now sit down with the rest of the children bitch.
It's two games you stupid frick. And every game since 2011 has been decided by a TD or less and I expect the same this year regardless of how both teams are played.

If you are going to make a change, you have to have savvy people with a large bankroll calling the shots.
That being said...you've convinced me. There are tons of programs who would be thrilled with 8 regular season wins and a bowl game every year. Why should we expect any different (besides the fact that we spend so much more money on the football program than them)?
I'm sure that if everyone just settles for 2nd or 3rd in the East every year that you won't have any trouble selling tickets or licensed gear.
My wife and I have 4 degrees from UT between us...and will always be UT fans. That being said...I'm probably not going to continue to spend Saturdays paying to go to games to watch an inferior product on the field...especially with how many games are now televised. Life is much easier when you aren't emotionally invested in things like the success of teams from your alma mater...
I will take your lead and embrace our suckativity.
How far in advance can you buy Independence Bowl tickets, anyway? Asking for a friend.

They are a top 10 team you simpleton. UofM is a perfect example of not settling for mediocrity until you find the right coach.

Michigan (4-0) - AP #9, Coaches #8;
Miami (2-0) - AP #14, Coaches #13;
Notre Dame (3-1) - AP #22, Coaches #26
I see your point...

Are you in special ed? Overall record is not 2 games. Overall record is tn vs uga all time record. Check that and get back to me (bitch) which is what uga is to tennessee

Without looking we have about the same amount of wins the pas5 5 seasons as mihigan... probably more than nd, and miami. And last yr nd had 5 wins, miami had the same amount of wins as tn.
So yea good point.
But i said outside of saban, meyer, or harbaugh walking through that door nothing is a sure thing. We have won 9 games the last 2 seasons. And unless we have a homerun hire in waiting (which we dont) our next hire could look like lsu, and set us bc further

You lead the series 23-21-2 you stupid frick. That's two games. Now go back to pissing off your fellow vol fans with your ignorant posts.

This is the "playing not to lose" mentality that is one of the many things that infuriates the fan base about Butch.

Translation...settle for mediocre because average isn't too bad...gotcha.

In the 2 years with their current coach...Michigan is 20-6 (76.9%). Over the last 5 years, 40-24 (62.5%) and they fired their coach to improve.
In the 1.25 years with their current coach...Miami is 11-4 (73.3%). Over the last 5 years they are 38-25 (60.3%), and they fired their coach to improve.
In the last 5 seasons, Notre Dame is 43-21 (67.1%), including a NC game appearance.
In Butch's 4 seasons, UT is 30-21 (58.8%).

Yes...Miami fired their coach and hired someone who got them to 9 wins in year #1.
