Easy answer. They either go to ole miss or go out of state. Mississippi State has a coach that doesn't want to be there. That's the bottom line.

I wonder why there weren't any pissed off white people at Texas A&M in 1962...

Not meant to be a criticism of MSU, but an observation of their head coach. It does appeared that he and his staff have drastically fallen off the recruiting battle to say the least.

Mullen's MSU passion seemed to be waning... most evident during the Egg Bowl game and especially post game. I know the game was disheartening... but during the post game he was casually reading a piece of paper while talking to reporters... didn't really seem to care. Then the following week, the rumors of the Miami interview surfaced.

In contrast, when Bama lost to Ole Miss, Saban was pissed and passionate. As a result, the Bama team responded, and they won the NC. IMO, recruits pick up on Mullen's mannerism and began to have serious reservations committing to a team with a high staff turnover rate and a coach that may not even want to be there.

Thus, I don't think that this is about a recruit's pride for the state, but about the HC's pride and passion for the state of his team.
