He is expected to commit to Texas A&M too. This is a big need position for A&M since both freshman backs on campus and JR James White had all been dealing with injuries/health issues and Tra Carson is graduating this year.

So how does this affect A&M's recruitment of Whaley and Pennamon?
Oh and congrats!

Is Arkansas in the running for Whaley?

We are in his top 5 but it's been very quiet about him from our side. He's top 2 on our board. Unlikely we get him

Rumored to be officially visiting the 21st (next weekend)

I don't think we are recruiting Pennamon much anymore. I doubt we keep pursuing Whaley assuming we land Williams and keep Rakeem Boyd, and not sure he would want to be a part of a 3 RB class

I think Whaley to UGA pending potential staff shakeups

Our current back is 6'0" 235. He's okay, but not fast enough to be elite.
Like already mentioned, we have 5'11" 215 Ford, but also 6'0" 220 White and a HS SR that is 5'11" 200 with room to add another 15 pounds. I think we will have enough size.

We've got one RB spot, and it's going to one of Williams or Whaley or Speights, whomever commits first. Most likely Williams.

Williams is 5'9, but he's stout. Shorter backs can be good power backs. 5'9, 210 is a pretty good size for a power back, and Williams looks to me like he has the build to carry that kind of weight. You might think 210 is too light for a power back, but when you're 5'9 and built like a bowling ball, your low center of gravity and ability to hide behind the line can be a real asset when running in between the tackles.

As for RB size, look at the NFL.
Here are the top backs in fantasy this year. (most TDs & Yards)
Freeman, 5-9 209
Ingram, 5-10 215
Miller, 5-10 212
Ivory, 6-0 222
Peterson, 6-1 220
Woodhead, 5-8 200
Martin 5-9 223
Gurley 6-1 231
Forte 6-2 218
Gore 5-9 217
If it works at the highest level then it'll work in the SEC.

Wait a minute. I thought LF was the "ideal" size for the NFL. Somethings not right here.

More than one way to skin a cat.
Bell, Peterson, Gurley, Lacy, Hill are all good sized backs, but Lesean McCoy, Dion Lewis, Charles, Gore, MJD, Rice (a few years back on the last 2) are all on the smaller size. All successful NFL players.

Aggies are going after Whaley hard. They will take his commitment for sure.
Going to a bellcow rather than constantly shuffling has helped the Aggies standing.
Doubt Whaley is worried about who else is committed.

UGA feels pretty confident as of now with Whaley. It should be a good battle to the end with him.
