No matter how well Heupel coaches that offense, to beat the best teams you've got to match up on the line. yep, you can get one on them here and there, like you did vs alabama, but you know you've got to match up on the line.

Beating Alabama, Clemson, LSU & Pitt (Elite DL under Narduzzi) while trailing talent wise along the LOS to all but Pitt is better than "you can get one here and there'. That's coaching. Rodney Gardner & Glen Elarbee are two of the best in the country.

3 of the top 4 recruits in this class were along the DL. Using the On3 composite, Tennessee took the following:

Defensive Line:
5* - 1
4* - 4
3* - 1

Offensive Line:
4* - 2
3* - 5

On3 Composite

Don’t act like LSU was oozing with talent this year. LSU started 2022 with 39 on scholarship and played with less than 70 on roster this season.

Tennessee is 1 year removed from being in the exact same situation after Pruitt was fired & the NCAA got involved. I get it

How that like look this year in Death Vally? 40-13 ring a bell? UT will not miss a beat next year. Expect us to have the top offense again. But if you actually looked at UT roster we have 8 starters coming back on offense and 8 back on defense. We just got DL and OL from portal that are ready to play right now.

Heuepel took over a 3-7 team under investigation that lost 31 players to the portal. And LSU had a top 10 team talent wise last 2 years.
Team talent rankings 247
LSU 2021 team was #5 talent wise in country.
LSU 2022 team was #8 talent wise in country.
You LSU fans act like y’all didn’t have talent but that’s not even facts. Facts is you got beat 40-13 by a team that was ranked 11 spots below you in team talent wise for 2022. You got beat like you did because we have the better coaching staff. End of discussion.

Tennessee definitely worked LSU in their matchup but you lose me here

You had a great QB who was playing at an elite level. However, I’d bet on LSU and BK to be more successful over the next 5 years.

You aren’t wrong, offensive line is probably the biggest problem we had against Georgia. But we definitely had enough to manhandle LSU

Oline was solid most of the year. Plenty of talent. UGA dline going to do that to anyone. Hooker needed to do a better job recognizing the blitz. They were getting free runs off the edge and jumping the snap.

Oline is also the hardest to evaluate in high school but we've got a great position coach.. best since we had Pittman. Center was our weakest link and by no means is Cooper Mays bad.. just undersized. LT could've been better but Mincey kept getting hurt. LG/RG/RT were great.

We are getting plenty of 4 talent for the defensive line. Oline mix of 3 and 4 star guys.. but we have been doing well in the portal for oline.

I’m not saying our line was bad by any means. We ran the ball very well. Our pass pro wasn’t horrendous but it wasn’t good enough at several times this year ( by good enough I mean elite )

You had 72 according to other sources, but close enough. And didn't y'all take something like 15 from the portal last year?
You have taken another 10 this year, so it would appear as if that is the way Kelly intends to rebuild your roster.

It will be interesting to see how well it works. Year 1 looked pretty good.

Only took 13 freshmen, so we had to have transfers. Ended up with 18 transfers. 31 in the class of 2022 plus 39 returnees = 70, then we lost a starting defensive tackle on the first drive of the first game.

So yeah, we played most of the season with fewer than 70 scholarships. Not bad for a team that went from last to first in the west.

We lost all but 1 CB and we didn't do much better at safety, and as you'll fondly remember, our defensive tackles were 3 deep, as in we played 3. So we had to get veterans at edge, d-line and defensive backfield. We currently have 5 scholarship linebackers, so I'd expect more transfers there. As the roster stands now, I think we can still add 7-8 more. We've got 25 freshmen and 10 transfers so far.
