Yeah, because ESPN is defiantly the best site to go by when it comes to recruiting.

Been saying this a while, not that Bama is the best overall
But comparing population and per capita it is way above the best

You are missing the point of the stat. It doesnt matter who makes the rankings. Players from Alabama have lived up to their rankings at a higher percentage than players from other stats.

I can buy this... but the statement in the OP about "qaulity of recruits'... wtf does that even mean?... outside of the top 4 or 5 guys every year, AL doesn't come close to top-end talent in FL, TX, CA, GA, etc.
Posted on 9/6/13 at 12:57 pm to lowspark12
not true either since there are tons of guys who fly under the radar, never get a scholly & go to smaller schools etc
Alabama's athletic talent is stout

quote:Honest question: Could this be true, in part, because a good many Alabama high school players have been going to UA where they are receiving the best coaching in the country, thus making them look better? My point is, a 4* recruit is more likely going to look like they were a blue-chipper in high school if they would have gone to Alabama.

It's true outside of of Tyler Love and BJ Scott most of the 5 star players from Alabama have all been beast in college and most went on to be 1st Rd picks. Most at least panned out. Andre Smith, Rolando McClain, Marcel Dares, Julio Jones, Mark Barron , Upshaw, Dre Kirkpatrick, DJ Fluker, Nico Johnson, Dee Miller, CJ Mosley, TJ Yellow, etc. Not to mention all the lower rated guys from AL that have it beasted

Jameis Winston didn't and he is looking like a beast. Neither did Kwon Alexander and he had a great freshman campaign at LSU last year. Chris Casher also looks to be an impact player at FSU. Their are a few bust, but far more of the high end players from AL pan out compared to other states.

Not necessarily because there are guys like Justin Tuck, Phillip Rivers, Pat White, Jerrico Cotchery, Earl Bennett, Marcell Dareus. Terrell Owens, and a ton of others who didn't have the greatest HS coaches yet are stars in college and/or pros

Even though LA produces the most NFL players per capita despite having fewer citizens than Alabama? According to USA Today last year, LA had 61 players on active NFL rosters, while the state of Alabama had 49. LA has 1 NFL player per every 74,318 people while Alabama has 1 NFL player per every 97,546 people.
Now lets break it down by 5 star recruits. Since I'm using 24/7's rankings, we can only go back to 2010. Since that time, LA has had 8 5 star caliber players compared to Alabama's 6. I now that's not a great sample size, but by just glancing at state rankings you can tell LA has produced more highly rated recruits.

I'm talking about kids that are considered D1 Athletes as well and guys historically also, but yes both states have a rich history and I will concede that La is just as good and at times better, but both of our smaller states can more than compete with Tx, Cali, & Fla more what I meant

The number of five stars produced has no bearing on the stat that was given.

How many of those players have gone in since 2006?

True, but this thread is about the quality of recruits from Alabama. I simply pointed out that Louisiana has had more highly rated recruits in the last few years.

ESPn can say whatever they want, its all just a ploy!
I guess its Ga, Fl, Tx, and Cali's fault they produce soo many recruits that it waters down the top players within their state. There is no way bamas quality since 2006 is better than that of Ga, Fl, and Tx. I dont hardly see any top recruits coming form alabama. R Foster doesnt count either, hes from Ga, son!

None at all? So you're telling me you didn't see....
Andre Smith, Rolando McClain, Marcell Dareus, Julio Jones, Mark Barron, Courtney Upshaw, Dre Kirkpatrick, DJ Fluker, Nico Johnson, Dee Milliner, CJ Mosley, and TJ Yeldon play? And those are just the recruits who went to Alabama over the past 7 years. All of them came from the state of Alabama.
