That gives UGA 2 five star players now.

He is ranked 29th by 247 and 19th on Composite. Jumped from 65th to 29th after the opening. Stepped up against the best of the best.

247 page

I think I got his composite and his 247 ranking backwards. I think he actually jumped from 65th to 19th.

Kind of small for a safety. He's one of two safeties in 247's top 40 listed under 6 feet and weighs the least of any top 25 safety according to their listed measurements. He must be a hell of an athlete to be a 5 star despite that.

Instant playmaker when he arrives in Athens. From the little action I watched at Nike last weekend, Lecounte was the best player every time he stepped on the field. He was a blur, making play after play. Well deserved 5-star

Well deserved. He was a beast at the opening.

Anyone know his 40 time? Doesn't look like a burner but has phenomenal game speed. And holy frick he can drop the hammer .

Didn't see a specific time, but based on some comments from the opening about "not testing well", I'd imagine it wasn't particularly notable. But definitely correct on game speed.

ETA: Not confirmed anywhere, but his HUDL claims a 4.4: LINK
UGA Mini Camp from 2015 had him timed at 4.51... LINK

Didn't run the 40 at the opening, but posted a very quick shuttle time of 4.01

Don't know why this was downvoted twice...It's a legit comment...typically, measurements will drive a lot of a player's star rating. He doesn't have them, thus the last sentence above...

You did. Rivals and Scout haven't updated at all. ESPN has had him in the top 10 for a while now (probably too high). He made a *hell* of a jump (43 spots). I think the only larger jump on 247 with this most recent reranking was OT - Walker Little, who moved from 58 to #2 overall... nucking futs...
TE - Colby Parkinson made a 33 spot jump as well

Here were Barton Simmons' thoughts on that area:

quote:

The 2016 NFL Draft busted up some common misconceptions: 1. Safeties don't get drafted in the first round (False: two first-rounders and two more second-rounders) 2. If you want to play safety in the NFL, you have to be a big (False: the top drafted safety was 5-foot-10 Karl Joseph). With that in mind, Richard LeCounte III is my favorite safety in the country right now.

The Georgia commit and No. 37 prospect in the country according to 247Sports Composite was everywhere over the weekend. He had several interceptions, several more near interceptions and he was probably the springiest athlete I saw at the event. He's also confident. Nobody was talking more trash at the event which is fine with me as long as you can back it up. He can.

Turn on his football clips and he makes plays on both sides of the ball. Turn on his basketball clips and he's cranking dunks on defenders even at 5-10.5. What he did this weekend gives that much more validity to what he does to weak competition on Friday nights. He's special.

Sometimes measurable mean something unless you go out against the best of the best and outplay them. Lecounte did just that this weekend. He's also a basketball player that has great leaping ability. I think 247 had him ranked lower even though he's insanely athletic but they finally moved him into 5 star at 19 overall after showing out at The Opening.

The last 2 posts pretty much validated the post that was downvoted in terms of lack of measurables vs great athleticism

Can't speak to the downvotes... I don't have a problem with the comment? Was simply sharing additional info.

The "kind of small for a safety" comment I would argue isn't particularly valid. Troy Polamalu is like 5'10". Plenty of great FS at around that size. There had been a trend toward larger safeties, but I feel like size tends to be more required in the SS spot. My most recent post discussed a first round draft pick safety at about the same size as well.

Say what?

And as far as his size, he's 16-17 years old at 175 lbs. he'll get college and weigh 190-200 in no time so it's not a big deal.

The guy said he must be a helluva athlete with those measurables...that's basically what Barton said.

Also, most kids can gain those weight numbers in a good S & C program
