I think it will hurt FSU. UT nor Malone wanted this info out there for this exact reason. UT coaches didn't want this info out. The Malone's didn't want this info out. UT coaches vowed to them that they would not tell a soul. And now the info is out a few days later. You can see how things could get confused. Luckily, we got to the bottom of it quickly so that the UT coaches wouldn't get blamed

FSU done fricked themselves.

How did the NCAA let this happen?

What it does: The interpretation allows high school midyear-graduating seniors to sign scholarship papers six months before the letter-of-intent signing period opens in February.

Traditionally, midyear enrollees have signed, after beginning college coursework, with the remainder of their recruiting classes in February. This ruling gives those players an opportunity to secure their scholarships before the start of their senior years.

Universities must verify that the prospect is on track to graduate at midyear before providing the agreement. Once signed, the agreement obligates the university to honor the scholarship.

What it doesn't do: It doesn't create an early signing period. It doesn't establish a new rule -- this is simply an interpretation of pre-existing legislation.

It doesn't obligate the prospect to attend the school with which he signs the financial-aid agreement. It doesn't create a recruiting ban on other programs from pursuing the prospect after he signs the agreement.

And it doesn't replace the letter of intent, which remains the standard document by which universities are bound to prospects, notably for the majority of prospects who graduate at the end of an academic year.

If I'm understanding this right, connecting the dots, he signed papers with the three schools today and asked them not to leak it. FSU leaked that he had signed the UT papers to try to knock UT out of the race by making Malone think that UT had leaked, and in doing so FSU hurt themselves. If he hadn't signed the papers with multiple schools, I don't see how FSU's coaches could have known.

Interdasting.

Sounds like you should also help solve the Jameis investigation. Perhaps the JFK shooting?

Why else would FSU leak that he signed papers with UT?

There are a ton of people close to every college staff in America. It's shocking the info got out?

It is if Malone was insistent on it not getting out. Big college programs aren't typically careless.

The news of Josh Malone having signed the new NCAA grant-in-aid papers that force a school to guarantee its verbal scholarship offer was not a great surprise on Thursday. VolQuest.com had been aware the Malone family had looked into the early signing option in-depth. But the family had strongly expressed a desire to keep that information quiet in order to help Josh, who has never sought attention, maintain a more manageable handle on the situation. So what's it mean? Well, Malone has signed the papers with Tennessee and could sign them with others. He's in possession of papers from at least one other member of his group of finalists. The upside for the papers rests always with the prospect. Yes, it allows schools who hold signed papers to escape the NCAA's contact restrictions but it's a boost for prospects who are guaranteed a scholarship but not bound to any one signature. Malone still will visit Clemson officially, and the timeline remains that Malone will officially declare his choice Dec. 4. Now, the fallout from Thursday's events seemed to center particularly on one school: FSU. Every source contacted by VolQuest.com pointed the leak at Tallahassee.

No, he has only signed them with UT though he apparently plans to sign them with all three schools now. As for the leak, he hadn't signed any papers with FSU or UGA and hadn't gotten any from UGA at the time this came out so it really begs the question, if only UT and the Malones knew the papers had been signed, how the hell did FSU even find out to leak it in the first place? I'm going with, "because they didn't".

He is still going to sign with UT, but the only team this hurt in the slightest bit was the Vols.

An FSU writer is the one that broke the news about Malone. No one from Tennessee's side said anything about it until the cat was out of the bag.

This is the first step to an early signing period.

Once an early enrolling player signs his financial aid papers with a University, that University is allowed unrestricted access and contact with him.

Coaches can even speak about the prospects for the first time even though they have not signed an LOI yet. Dabo, for example, has been gushing about Deshaun Watson ever since he signed his at Clemson.

I wouldn't be surprised if Universities started creating organized displays for these individuals once they sign. Setting up "Welcome to Wherever" signs on campus with the kid's names on them.

The NCAA will need to kill this rule ASAP or use it to branch into an early signing period. I think it will be the later.

And how did this FSU writer find out? Josh tell him?

BTW, all that FSU writer actually did was confirm the news.

Actually, Warchant.com broke the news. No one that covers Tennessee football had posted anything about this until after the report came out. After the fact, we found out that Malone actually had signed his papers with UT about a week before the FSU writer even knew about it.

And yes Malone probably did tell Jimbo that he had signed the papers. I find that scenario more believable than a UT coach calling FSU to brag that Malone had signed or whatever the hell you're trying to get at.
