The rest of the SEC will know just how soft Hurd is this year... then two more years after this one.
Prepare your LBs and DBs anuses.
The kid has already had two surgeries on the same shoulder, and he hasn't even taken an NCAA hit yet. Shoulder injuries are typically bad news because they often linger and recur...and a RB with a bad shoulder will struggle to play. Hurd is also abnormally tall, and if you know anything about football you should understand that RB's of his height typically struggle mightily to stay low enough to absorb and deflect direct blows effectively. That is the greatest advantage of ~5'9 runningbacks: the good ones can avoid taking jarring hits because they are better equipped to minimize the impact that they are hit with on each carry.
I'd be worried about Hurd if I were a UT fan. A RB of his height who is already showing shoulder problems is not a good sign. The kid could be the next Dickerson, it wont matter if he cant stay healthy or if he is battling injuries his entire career.

That's been his biggest issue in off-season work.

at Jalen Hurd being soft. That dude is an athletic freak of nature. Same size as Derrick Henry coming out of high school and his 40 has been clocked as low as 4.37
The shoulder is a little worrisome but he could have came back during his senior year and finished the season but he wanted to have the surgery so that it would be 100% healed by the time he EE'd. I actually was happy that he went ahead and had the surgery when he did.

Malone > Hurd
Hurd should play D, not rb.

Good thing you're not a UT fan, you'd get laughed out of Knoxville.
Besides, ya'll forget, we also got Derrell Scott and Trayvon Paulk in the recruiting class too. If Hurd busts (he won't), we'll still be golden

Thats nice. You guys have already built this kid up as the Messiah that will resurrect your program. I'm simply telling you to be cautiously optimistic because a 6'3 RB with two shoulder surgeries already isn't exactly sending off a ray of sunshine in relation to his future health/effectiveness.
I mean, this kid's shoulder couldn't even handle the strain of hitting 160 pound white kids....but SEC LB's are supposed to "fear" meeting him in the hole?

He now has two bionic shoulders. He will be good to go

Fwiw, shoulders are incredibly hard to fix and become chronic issues quite easily.

Not saying he's soft because I've never met the guy, but those attributes you mentioned don't mean he's not soft.

The first surgery was considered "pretty minor". He dislocated it during his junior year iirc but played through it, leading Beech to a state championship. The shoulder injury during his senior year wasn't considered serious either. Hurd could've came back but he wanted to have surgery so that the shoulder would be 100% healed for the first time in nearly 2 years and he would be ready for spring practice at UT.
You're making a much bigger deal out of this than what it really is.

You're right, I should've elaborated more. Watch Hurd's HUDL from his JR year. He's got game breaking speed but he isn't afraid to lower his shoulder and truck anyone. A lot of guys with his speed want to bounce everything outside especially in high school. Hurd's style of play is anything but soft.

Not going to lie...with all of the 5 star busts Tennessee has had the last 10 years, I'm cautious about any of them that walk on the field, regardless of injury history.

I don't know if Hurd is soft or not, but he is not terrible.
I do think there are some legitimate concerns with his height and shoulders, but I also think he has the chance to be a very, very good back.

He's Ronnie Wingo Jr Jr. 6-3/200+ and FAST, but runs east west once he gets to college.
