Bama with 27 of the 300 on that list. 9% of total list to one school? I'll take it.

The fact that Tyrod Taylor is on this list tells you all you need to know.

Cam Newton only played one year of college ball. It was a great year, but you can't discount the fact that he was thrown out of one college and nearly landed the other one on the NCAA chopping block.

That's racist. Al Sharpton will call another emergency black caucus!

Glad to see Isaac Gross from Ole Miss made the list. I spotted Isaac as a freshman at South Panola in 2009. He was the best player on the field for a national powerhouse. Wrote an evaluation on him and posted on the LSU recruiting board about him. Not sure our coaches gave him a hard look.

Most of that list is terrible IMO.

Well it's based off of ESPN's own rankings since 2006, which anyone who remotely follows 'crootin can tell you are horrendous. Wouldn't expect anything quality from ESPN these days bud, except maybe picture quality and self-promoting commercials.

Makes sense to have Cam lower if they're looking at body of work. 3-4 yrs of excellence is bigger for a program than one all-time season

Looking at the list the issue I see is how many players on it were not in the top 300 in their class. I understand some did not hit their stride until college, but it goes to show you these recruiting services really guess half the time. These are not all of them but interesting.

Johnny Manziel
Marcus Mariota
Sam Bradford
Marcell Dareus
Melvin Gordon
Todd Gurley
Luke Kuechly
RGIII
Mo Claiborne
William Sutton
LaMichael James
Honey Badger
Rolando McClain
Odell beckham
Ifo Ekpre-Olomu
Monte Ball
Tre Mason
Nick Fairley
Chance Warmack
Kevin Benjamin
Greg Robinson
Russell Wilson
Barrett Jones
Giovanni Bernard
Justin Blackmon
Randall Cobb
Mark Barron
Shane Ray
Ezekiel Elliot
Dont'a Hightower
Ameer Abdullah
Vic Beasley

Wow. OK, let's see... Is this like a complete joke?

While I can see your point, people get way too worked up over lists like this. This is not a list of the best/most productive college players in history; it's a subjective list of how (mostly) high-rated recruits met/exceeded expectations coming out of high school for their respective teams. If you were a highly ranked recruit and put up big numbers, you're gonna be ranked higher. There are some headscratchers though as it seems like recruiting ranking is more important than production in some cases and not so in others...

quote:

Cam Newton at #31, behind Matt Barkley, Jameis Winston, Johnny Manziel, Marcus Mariota, Aaron Murray and Matthew Stafford? Heisman trophy winner while also going #1 overall in the NFL Draft. Greg Robinson at #179, behind Cam Robinson? A guy who has only started one year in CFB? Yet Greg Robinson went #2 overall in the NFL Draft and had a great college career? CJ Moseley at #42, behind Manti Te'o?

While Cam is better than most of the QBs listed ahead of 'em, most were higher rated as recruits and/or played more than one year...if Cam had stayed another year, he'd be much higher on the list, probably top 10. CRob is rated above GRob on this list, not because he's better, but because he was a 5-star and the top rated OL coming outta high school and he started and performed well as a true freshmen. Te'o is listed ahead of Mosley because he was the #2 recruit that year, started as a true freshmen, won numerous awards, and he put up great numbers.

Bottom line: It doesn't mean those higher on the list are better than those lower on the list (or some that are not even on the list).

This is silly. So many current NCAA players made it and yet several currently dominate NFL players aren't listed.

What is the criteria?

Criteria is: "What do we put to generate clicks?"

Von Miller is #94.

Jackson Jeffcoat is #70.

There is no football related set of criteria that rates Jeffcoat ahead of Von.
