What does sign and place mean?

It used to be you could sign a kid that was headed to JUCO, basically give them that life line, help them get to a JUCO that was pro your school, with the hope they return to your school. Even though they signed a NLI in February if they did not qualify it did not affect your 25 limit. But the SEC changed that rule which because of H Nutt at Ole Miss when he had double digit sign and place with something like 38 in one signing class. Now any kid you that signs a NLI in the SEC counts against the 25 whether they make it to campus or not.

Think that the kid is starting to see where he stands on the pecking order at Bama. He failed to impress at the All-Star game, and hasn't really blown anyone away lately with his film. Good player, great guy for depth, but if he is looking to be a starter, he will have to find it elsewhere.

A grade issue helps us because it's easier to get into MSU than Alabama(not sure when the new NCAA limits kick in?).

Its the same for athletes to get into all SEC schools but Vandy.

Looks like he is going to OV to Miss St. this weekend. He is hosting Mullen this evening on an in home visit. Saban had his in home earlier and he doesn't appear to be more solid, so it may be a mutual parting of ways IMO. Still says he likes Bama, but looking for the best opportunity. With our current haul it might be best for him to look elsewhere if he is looking for immediate playing time.

I go to Airline. All he needs is one point better on his ACT and he will qualify. Plus Nick Saban was at Airline today. I was hearing that he was looking around at other schools but I don't know if the Saban visit reaffirmed his commitment

I know how y'all feel about "inside" info but my friend on the football team told me Miss State has a good chance to flip him

Appreciate your comments. I think he will end up flipping as-well.

Thanks for the info. I'll be surprised if he makes it out of this weekend a Bama commit. Good luck to him.

Dan Mullen, our DC and DL coach all in Shreveport for Smith's inhome visit. Things sounding really good from Smith's dad and he will OV Mississippi State this weekend.

We will see. I'm just going off of what my friend said on the Miss State stuff. He knows OJ pretty we'll though. Wherever he does go though I wish the best for him whether that's at BAMA or anywhere else.

Great... Big position of need for us...

Lets us get more aggressive with the 3-4 and 3-3-5 packages if we essentially have 2 nose guards instead of just one that has been, up until this point, a mental nut case. Would be interesting to see if he has the versatility to kick out to DT like Nick James does allowing us to be multiple with the same personnel on the field essentially "confusing" a hurry-up. We did that pretty well last year with Chris Jones kicking inside and outside. Would be even better with a true NT.

James and Smith - NG/DT
Jones - DT/DE
Mckinney - MLB/OLB/DE
Smith - OLB/DE
Wells - NB/OLB
etc...

I wonder if Matt Elam's decision Thursday will play a factor into this.

He and his dad are aware of it, as it pertains to potentially adding another DT to the mix. With them looking a commit lists and depth charts, it's hard to say it doesn't.

Smith is a powerful player with some good movement, he just lacks a lot of moves and polish as of now. Grades are a huge question too, no definitive info recently either way.

Dammit, I'm rooting for OJ. The kid is an Airline Viking, I wish him well wherever he goes.

I think it does. I feel like I read something where OJ's family said "we'll know more on Thursday"

as in, if Elam picks Bama we gone

If Elam picks BAMA I think its best for both sides to part ways. If Elam doesn't pick BAMA I would love to keep O.J.

Seems like it's a much ado about nothing situation, sticking with Bama.
