I don't think any of us are really surprised per se. But there has been a good bit of uncertainty over the past few weeks -- especially considering his tweets last night. I think you're probably right that LSU backed off. Huge pickup for us regardless.

Congrats, I hope Auburn can harness that talent. He has a lot of Dez Byrant and Randy Moss in him, good and bad.

He may go for 200 yards against LSU next year, but he is just as likely to get ejected in the first quarter.

Again, congrats.

Malzahn on signing D'haquille Williams: "We're going to throw it more next season."

The way Malzahn changed the entitlement culture at AU in one year gives me hope he'll be able to ground DW and help him focus on the team aspect of being a great player. It will be interesting to see the offense next year.

Congrats Auburn. Great pick-up.

Whether he just liked Auburn more, LSU backed off, he was scared for his life, or whatever...it's a great pick up.

Not sure if our coaches wanted him, but I sure did. I know some LSU people were concerned that signing him may impact the decisions of some of the 4 year WRs we have on the line, but I think we needed Williams next year with Landry and Beckham both expected to go pro.

If either of those guys were coming back, my opinion could change. Hopefully, the coaches have some good news about Landry or Beckham and backed off for that reason (prayer emoticon needed).

Great football player, interesting to see if the kid can stay out of trouble.

Article is about some of the stuff that has been mentioned about the trouble in his life. Some thought it seemed far fetched but it factored some in his decision. I hope he's successful in his career.

So he wanted LSU but picked Auburn to stay away from trouble.

Where have I heard that before? I can't remember.

This summer, Kyrian Gray, who is Williams’ 16-year old cousin, was shot and killed at a house party. The Mississippi Gulf Coast star wide receiver has lost two cousins and a close friend in the last year to alleged gang-related violence.
He had reason to believe his life was in danger too.
It’s a big reason why the nation’s top-ranked junior college player signed with Auburn on Wednesday over LSU, the hometown school that recruited him for years.
“That had a lot of impact on it,” Williams said. “Being close to home at LSU, it’s like 30 minutes away from home and I know my friends are going to want to come see me. I don’t want them getting in trouble and I don’t want to get in trouble. ... It’s good to get away from home. It was really to stay out of trouble.”

I don't really care why he picked Auburn. All that matters is that he is a difference maker and will contribute immediately to an already loaded offense in 2014.

Regardless, this isn't the first time a recruit has signed with a school away from his home town, to get away from a rough past.

No. I was convinced that his cousin's murder wasnt the reason he flipped. I was convinced that there wasn't such a specific and serious threat on his life as to prevent him from going to LSU. The reason is that his cousins death occurred before he ever committed to LSU in the first place and because he returned home and to LSU several times after the alleged death threat.

He may have wanted to avoid trouble by getting away from home, but that wasn't the story you and other fans were buying and trying to sell.

Brah, he's going to the barn solely because he's uncomfortable with his situation close to home. Not hard to accept.

The original story was after he committed to LSU his cousin was murdered and he received a death thread saying "YOU'RE NEXT." The facts just don't line up with that since he committed to LSU AFTER his cousins murder.

So you're saying there's no way he had second thoughts? Gotcha.

You go with that, not what Quille just directly said. I dont know why it's hard for some of you Aubbies to accept he'd be at LSU 100% if it wasn't for his dangerous situation nearby there. The kid has been LSU 100% all his life and has stated as much multiple times.
