I was wondering how many top tier recruits from the south leave the south. I was just curious because 5* Rashard Lawrence is on UO campus and even with family in Portland, I doubt there is much legit interest.

It seems to be 2nd tier recruits like Mattrell McGraw and Kirk Merritt will leave. The former is languishing on the bench. Merritt is TBD.

It seemed a lot more common in the 90s for recruits to head to schools like Nebraska or Colorado. There are probably dozens worth noting recently, but Leonard Williams and Joe McKnight were the first two I thought of now. As of late, the only Louisiana guy I can think of LSU really wanted that headed west was Kenny Young. Mike Mauti a few years ago too to Penn State, but that was before I followed recruiting so I have no idea about the story there or if LSU wanted him.

The guys who went to FSU and Miami were still in SEC country, just not SEC schools. Not sure if there's a difference there.

Yeah, I am wondering about those that left the area. Nearly Fsu entire team would count.

Texas, tOSU and USCw are probably the other destinations.

Speaking of Texas, what is the name of the QB from Texas who recently played at Oregon? Dixon?

Even with the Aggies, I still don't think of Texas as SEC country, because there are a ton of Texas guys who left like JT Barrett. Ohio State gets a bunch of Florida and Georgia guys like McMillon or the Bosas.

Yip, I wonder how Mariota as a true freshman would have faired because Thomas was not nearly the passer Mariota ended up.

Darron Thomas had his strengths though. Mariota was pretty slight as a True frosh.

Also, I didn't mean Texas recruits but Sec area recruits going to Texas.

Yea OSU does a great job in Georgia and Florida.

I wouldn't be surprised if OSU swipes 3 of the top 10 kids in Florida in 2017.

Vonn Bell, McMillan, Joey Bosa (likely his brother too), Torrance Gibson, James Clark, Johnnie Dixon,

If you count Mizz. and Texas we also got Dontre Wilson, JT Barrett, Demetrius Knox and Ezekiel Elliott

Got Michael Hill out of South Carolina a few classes ago.

But to be honest, Meyer is an all-world recruiter. He says he wants 50% Ohio and 50% of the best from anywhere else

I had those 2 along with Reggie Wayne, but I removed them since Florida is considered SEC country

ETA: Brock Berlin too

All of the "sec country" kids (at skill spots) we got in last year's class are instant impact types: Taj Griffin, Ugo Amadi and Kirk Merritt. The year before that was Charles Nelson and Tony James and they are set to contribute in a big way. Mattrell McGraw is the one that I worry might never crack the two deep.

Gus Cumberlander is the only big man we've pulled. He might be 3rd tier.
