How should we feel about this? 18th rank per 247. 8th average recruit ranking. 2nd in transfer portal. Where do you really rank this class? 18th?

Average player ranking, especially given the excellent transfer class, is what matters most, given Elko’s very short time to recruit.

These recruiting services had no idea how to rank transfers. They're going to be extreemly impactful immediately. You take the top half of most of the top classes and it’s not too different than ours. We could have boosted our ranking be loading up on 3*s to fill out the roster. We would have been ranked higher and a lot worse off.

Insanely good considering Elko formed his entire staff, kept a huge amount of our players, killed it in the portal, and got very highly talented HS players....

He did ALL of this starting on Nov 28th. So in basically 2 months.

Few could have accomplished the same. Dude knows how to run a program for sure.

Makes all Ags realize what a freaking dumbass Jimbo was.

There are several parallels to the Orgeron /Kelly transition at LSU in 21-22, especially in terms of roster numbers and recruiting+portal rankings. That ‘22 team won 10 games, I could see the same for A&M in ‘24. You get guys who buy in and want to be there and you can compete with anyone. Depth at certain positions ultimately kept the ‘22 LSU team from accomplishing more (and y’all took advantage of it and kicked our arse).

The only thing Jimbo was good at was recruiting and Elko has been the head coach for ZERO games played so I’m not sure what you are talking about. I’d assume that Elko can’t be a worse gameday coach than the guy that Aggie paid over $70 million to not coach there anymore so your post should say Aggies are the dumbasses. Not Jimbo. Jimbo made out like a bandit. Y’all are the only people in the world that didn’t realize he wasn’t worth the money from the start.

First, please don’t troll the recruiting board.

Second, please quit saying objectively false comments.

The amount of talent you lost and wasn’t replaced is what matters most

I hear you. Defensive tackle was the biggest hit. Next was receiver. The kid from Purdue seems better than what we lost at DE, and we seem to have upgraded at DB. Getting our starter back at QB is nice along with the TE. I suspect we will lose another QB in the spring. Nolan was good, but not great(I never felt he lived up to the number 1 ranking, but he might be a beast)

Overall I like what we are bringing in, but I dont know how to compare it to everybody else

That's false.

Walter Nolen: starting DT. 37 tackles, 4 sacks
Evan Stewart: starting WR. 38 catches for 514 yards and 4 TD.
Jake Johnson: starting TE (after Green was lost for year): 24 catches for 235 yards and 4 TDs
Fadil Diggs: Straring DE. 36 tackles and 4 sacks
Jardin Gilbert: starting safety until injured. 5 tackles on the year.
Isaiah Raikes: 17 tackles and 1 sack.

Those were the only guys we lost with any stats to speak of. Overton might have developed this year. Max wasn't going to play next year.

Guys coming in:

Nic Scourton: starting DE from Purdue: 50 tackles and 17 sacks.
Cyrus Allen: starting WR from La Tech: 46 catches for 778 yards.
Cashius Howell: starting DE from BG: 27 tackles and 10 sacks
Will Lee: starting corner at KSU: 42 tackles and 2 int
Jaydon Hill: starting nickle/corner from Florida: 39 tackles and 2 sacks
Scooby Williams: starting LBer at Florida: 52 tackles and 1 sack
Marcus Ratcliff: starting safety at SD St: 50 tackles and 1 int
Garrett Miller: starting TE from Purdue: 30 for 243 and 2 TDs

That's like half of our incomong portal guys. All of them are guys that started and produced at other places. We have FAR more production coming in than what we lost. It's not close.

So replacing two 5 star defensive tackles with not 5 star defensive tackles is an upgrade?

No, but outside of DT and WR, we probably upgraded talent level at CB, S, RB, & DE.

In some cases, yes. We have more information than two and three years ago. Stars matter. (Except when they don't).

We had an "excess" of DT talent. Somebody was expendible to get more help at thinner positions.

Are we happy Nolen left? No. We lost 2 DL Coaches, the late Terry Price and the guy who accepted a DC job. Attrition expected. But in 2 months Elko did a very good job of targeting the weaker positions in the portal.

It's absolutely unreal what he did at corner.

He took a corner room that went from:

Bowl game:

1. Jayvon Thomas
2. Bravion Rogers
3. Dalton Brooks
4. Deuce

to

1. Ricks (Bama - #2 corner nationally from 2023 class)
2. Lee (starter from KSU)
3. Tyreek (returned from portal; two year starter)
4. Mayes (star from UAB)
5. Hill (starter from Florida)
6. Bobby Taylor
7. Jayvon Thomas
8. Bravion Rogers
9. Dalton Brooks
10. Terry Bussey (5 star true freshman)

Elko shored up the secondary with some experience and talent. Much, much needed. Lost a little on the DL but were deep there. Very, very deep.
WR is a crap shoot. Stewart is great, but he was all about himself and took whole games off. Improved at RB. Improved greatly at OL simply by having a real coach.
Kept a lot of talent. Should be pretty good next year, since Weigman has all the talent to be a superstar if the OL can protect him.

I'd give it a B+ until after spring ball.

Not good. Imagine your expectation for this year had you kept that 2022 class.
