I understand he was still getting respect as a high 4 star, but you see him run and he should have been a top 5 recruit in the country. Gurley to me is that good.

I read the other responses and it makes sense and I get that even low star kids can become superstars. It is just Gurley is a superstar at RB imo. I was just curious is all.

Marshall was the one getting all the hype at the time. Gurley got 4 stars, so the analysts didn't exactly whiff on him. He was just barely short of a fifth star, iirc.

Edit: Checking 247, he was Composite .9626 and 74 in the country, while 247 had him rated at 96 and number 56 in the country. That's getting up there as far as four stars go, so even without that 5th star, he was getting lots of respect.

I believe he was a 3 star till the last ranking.

Indeed. In Rivals final rankings, Gurley jumped like 100-something spots. He was a low 3-star and jumped to nearly the top 4-star.

Many also had him projected as a Safety. Even with that last minute adjustment, and partially because it was so last minute, I still consider him to be a big whiff by the recruiting services.

This performance in the state title game is a big factor in his late jump, but it was clear well before this that he was going to be a RB and a beast.

If you want to do one for 2010 and QBs use Sims - Bust. He was a five star for part of the process (and maybe on Scout if I remember correctly) but that was a weak year for QB's

And no, him being in a system that didn't fit him was not the end all reason for it.

I don't know that I would call Brandon Williams a bust at all, more like a Role Player that still could emerge. He is only a Junior this year at A&M and has shown flashes and has incredible speed. He just doesn't block well so he isn't getting on the field much. The RB's at A&M in general suffered in terms of carries the last 2 years as well due to the fact our QB was pretty good running the ball as well.

I think you can safely call Martellus Bennett a Star, he's one of the best TE's in the NFL and gettin' paid in Chicago. Had a solid career at A&M.

Thomas Johnson was on his way to being a stud but lost it and quit the team after the Bama game his Freshman year. Really strange situation and he seems to have fallen off the edge of the world. When he made this catch in his first game I really thought he would be a stud:

i remember getting hyped about thomas johnson, Such a big pickup. Spurned the horns to play with us and was so talented. Then all the sudden it turns out he was a headcase and for whatever reason never could adjust to the lifestyle

Bump to point out that the QBs have been done by the OP. Just figure this sort of interesting posting, with a mix of fact and honest opinion and opportunity for non-trollish debate, should be supported/encouraged. Thumbs up to the Damned Yankee Burner.

Little early to call Gunner Kiel a bust isn't it? Hasn't been eligible for a season yet
