He may very well have gotten Phillips to visit LSU with him, it looks like it. And hell, I don't know, Mullen and O may have some sort of collaboration going on. I know they are good friends, maybe they came at an agreement for Gay to help get Phillips to LSU. I know both Gay and Leo ended with visits to LSU. I also know O was instrumental in steering Leo away from OM.

That's a lot of speculation, but I will tell you this, Willie was never going anywhere other than State. He bleeds maroon and white, don't buy the shite about him wanting to be at LSU but his mom liking State. Not to say he doesn't like LSU, I'm sure he does. But you're essentially trying to recruit away a homer.

Not that I think he doesnt choose state, but I think you're being a little too disingenuous on how much he loves State vs. other schools. This kid committed to your biggest rival at one time. He helped recruit a top ILB to LSU. He's not bashful at all about telling to anyone and everyone how much he likes LSU. Normally, when it's hush hush, I get it, but he's exactly the opposite of that and this is why so many people were projecting Gay to LSU, not just homer mods and the such. If his mom wasn't in the picture at all, most say he'd choose LSU, but she just doesn't want him going anywhere but staying home, and she's made that very clear.

Wow, that was stupid. I'm sure in his first year as head coach at LSU, coach O wants to help another team in his own division land one of the best linebackers in the nation.

Are you illiterate? I was throwing out a random thought, I don't think that's actually why happened. Regardless, you apparently didn't catch the principle of what was posted. Gay would have been helping get Phillips to LSU, O has a lot to gain from that situation and literally nothing to lose.

So why exactly would Gay want to recruit someone to a school he has no interest in attending himself? While I definitely think Gay ends up at State, it seems pretty obvious it's because of his mother but he would prefer to go to LSU. Normally kids want their friends and other good players to join them at the school they plan on attending, not a competitor. Hell, I'm going to State and playing LSU the next 4 years, I should probably help them get the best linebacker in the nation to make them that much better. Makes a lot of sense.

So you think coaches don't collaborate at all when it comes to recruiting? Again, I'm not sure and I don't think that's what happened. But they would be crazy not to work with other coaches from time to time. You scratch my back, I scratch yours.

This is just an example of how that would/could work. Mullen knows Gay is solid to State, has an opportunity to throw O a bone and use Gay to get Phillips on campus. Sure, it doesn't help State for that to happen, but when the favor is returned it does.

I mean at one time Nick Saban was sending his "not quite good enough" recruits over to Hugh Freeze, if I remember the story correctly.

Not sure what you are talking about, but that has nothing to do with my post about him arguing a point that no one was arguing.

Oh yeah? You think kicking puppies should be legal?

Last I checked no one is a "Lock" until the LOI is received. Or in the very least publicly committed to a program.

Possibly not the best strategic plan from a man who is known for strategy. I doubt Saban would ever spend an ounce of effort to ever help others, in fact he probably does the exact opposite.

No.

We came out smelling like roses for the 5 for 5 deal in 2014.
