Heck he will probably play for ND anyway.

This is my feeling. Won't be as much competition for him there. Plus the prestige.

Just food for thought here but Jarrett Lee was part of the elite 11. That should say plenty. He has served well but clearly he is not anywhere near one of the best QB's in the country.

Star Jackson was also Elite 11...as was AJ McCarron AND Phillip Sims.

Let's all take a moment to remember the esteemed Garrett Gilbert. A five star stud who has clearly panned out.

I dare you to post that on the LSU recruiting board. He's the next messiah over there.

Fwiw his highlights are unimpressive, only thing that has me excited if we land him is his offer list.

OU, ND, USC, Bama, UTk, ark, U, LSU.....Vandy

From another board:

'
quote:

Twas two nights before Christmas and all through the house
Q. B. Gunner Kiel was as quiet as a mouse.

While the doctors at Vandy gave Valium for free
The Catholics all over Tebowed on one knee.

But down on the Bayou, there arose such a clatter,
Mike Scarborough arose to see what was the matter.

And the kids at East High sang Neck with their band
Young Gunner said Mom, it's out of your hand.

So bayou some tickets on S. W. A.
Fly down and watch me in Death Valley play.

And I heard Les exclaim as the news stories ran,
"We'll not not have a Quarterback as long as I can."

I agree Gunner maybe a little overrated. But like I said earlier we don't need him to be the next Peyton Manning. We would just like him to be a better than we have had in the past few years.

Can't be worse than we've had for the last 4 years. The last time I had confidence in a QB at LSU before a game was the Title game against OSU. Even this year before and during games I never felt full confidence in our qbs no matter how well they had previously played. I've seen them both be so bad the 3 years before. I am one LSU Tiger fan that will be celebrating 2 things on Jan 9. The National Championship and the end of JJ and JL as LSU's qbs. Sorry to have to say it like that but it's the truth.

I also am not a big fan of Kiel as a prospect and never have been aside from his mental preparation for the game. The analysts either see something I don't or they are really selling bs for a living. He's got talent for sure but he just doesn't impress me and I hate the comp he plays. I'll take him though because of the possibility that he's as good as the analysts say he is and because I like the qbs we already have.

That last part is my main reason, but I agree with everything you said. It's easy to get caught star gazing and judging by his film future star I don't see. I think we both would love to be wrong though.

The offer list does entice me just as much as the competiton worries me. But adding one of the top QBs in the current class adding more depth to an already surprising somewhat deep position is key in my opinion. After Mett leaves, you have to believe we can find a capable starter out of Kiel, Randall, and Rivers

ive heard that this is where he butters his bread. its a very intriguing intangible to have, especially combined with the better than average skill set and ideal size.

but Jigga blew away the competition at Elite 11 so, as a bama fan, i'm happier that we're going after him over Kiel.

If Kiel comes to LSU, they should just go ahead and hand the next 4 crystal balls to LSU.

Beano Cook said the same thing when Ron Pawlus (sp) signed with ND in the mid 90's. We all know how that turned out. Come on man!

Matt Barkley didnt look very good as a senior in hs, but look at him now.
Its a poor QB class and they gotta give a couple of QB's 5*.
