I have a real hard time putting two B1G schools in the top 6-8.

I think one out of Sparty and tOSU will threaten for top 4. The other will be left out in the cold.

You do realize OU has 3x the budget for athletics arkansas does right? Revenue is like double for football. Also the expansion was split into two phases so the stadium would be half done for the tOSU game. The other side is being done next year and both will equate to the originally quoted 300 million.

3x's the budget eh? Here is what I know...When Arkansas wants to build something, it gets built with a quickness. The state of Oklahoma is in a budget crisis as we speak. Oil is low, which is what they all blame it on. Oklahoma has old, run down facilities across the board. Oklahoma State has nicer facilities than OU, in fact.

quote:

Those plans, which also called for a renovation of the west side upper deck of the stadium in a different phase, had to be scaled back in large part due to sagging oil prices.

“In one week, when half the net worth of our major donors was wiped out by the fallen oil prices,” OU President David Boren said of when he started realizing there could be a problem. “You know you are sitting there and someone is worth so many million dollars and three days later, they are worth half that — that’s exactly what happened to a lot of our major donors and supporters. Also, then you look at what it does to the rest of the economy, what it does to the rest of the university. So we had to take that into account immediately.”

LSU wouldn't even be in the top 25 if they lost that much.

They would if they had 8 or 9 consecutive #1 classes.

What's the deal with Washington being in top 10? Am I missing something here? They've been very average/below average for years. Can someone give me an answer?

Majority of the players now are ones recruited by Petersen for his system. Not a bad bet to win the North and play in the PACCG. Win that and they are Top 10.

Assuming the polls are picking how the teams will finish. Have no idea why they would do otherwise. Who cares about anything else?

1. Alabama
2. Oklahoma
3. F$U
4. Iowa
5. LSU
6. Clemson
7. Washington
8. TCU
9. Notre Dame
10. Michigan State

Sorry but is this real life? You think Baylor beats Tennessee? Baylor has no coach and a ton of their talent just left. Tennessee could win a national title this year (I don't know if they are there but people do think they are a contender finally)

TCU isn't good at all. WVU would get squashed by UGA. I think the B1G probably has the best chance against the top of the SEC (4 teams or so), but the depth of the SEC is way better than the other conferences

Yes but Tennessee always loses a game they had sharpied in as a W during the pre-season. I'm not saying it will be Baylor, but it could be TEXAS AMC

And what do you have to show for it? A sugar bowl trophy lol? You got hosed by Clemson last year ( let the excuses begin, your QB in is denial LINK ). 37-17, All we kept hearing about was that OLB you have, that talked all that shite and got run all over the field to the tune of 530 yards. It was complete domination.

Come back when you have something to show like a natty. How long has it been? 16 years?

Probably not a popular opinion, but isn't this a little old? I mean does a few pairs of free sneakers really compare to what has apparently occurred at Ole Mi$$ and with $cam Newton and the barn?

OU is one of the few public universities that don't accept state aid, also OU has great facilities and is on par with about everybody but the ones like A&M who renovated in the last 5 years. OU has one of the biggest games in years vs tOSU in 2016 so they weren't going to gut the whole stadium and build a completely new press box in one offseason for a 300 mil upgrade. Lemme know when Arkansas spends 300 mil on stadium upgrades.

So, I'm seeing a ton of people putting tOSU in their top 10 (even top 5).

SB Nation put together a Returning Experience Index and Ohio State was 127th out of 128 teams.

Phil Steele's Returning Starters Index had them 128th out of 128 teams.

Phil Steele's Returining Offensive Line Starts has them at 71.

I know that Meyer has a really good track record...but I would say that they will come closer to finishing 3rd in their division than 1st. Why would they be preseason top 10?

Because the only team that has recruited better than Ohio State over the last four years is Alabama. They also return one of the best and most experienced quarterbacks in the country. Add in the fact that our coach wins 85% of his games and has three national titles in the last 10 seasons and you get a lofty ranking.

I agree, Good enough to beat everyone in their conference because they just have way more pure talent and an easy road to the Big 10 Championship. It will come down to MSU, Mich, and them like it usually does. Big 10 has an easy road to the playoffs because those 3 teams have no competition minus themselves. This year they finally scheduled someone with a pulse in OU, minus the two Mich teams.

Edit: I hear Mich looks good no idea about MSU.

Yes...and Meyer has done well. Looking at the final record and returning starters ranking for each year (Phil Steele's preseason numbers)

2015 - 12-1 - 29th
2014 - 14-1 - 87th
2013 - 12-2 - 58th
2012 - 12-0 - 8th

I see the point that they were able to reload with talent each year. I just don't know that they've ever had to couple losing this much talent with improvement within their conference/division. If you add that in with a week 3 matchup against Oklahoma in Norman...I just think that they will struggle a bit more this year than they have since Urban arrived in Columbus.

No they aren't. Their basketball arena is old and run down. Their baseball stadium is a dump and small. Their overall athletic facilities are shite compared to most of the SEC.

OU is one of the few public universities that don't accept state aid

That has nothing to do with their athletic department. The same athletic department that had to scale back their original plans for expansion because the money was not there.

but the ones like A&M who renovated in the last 5 years.

Arkansas is in the midst of spending over $400 million dollars on athletic facilities campus wide. I don't think you quite understand how far behind OU is in the arms race.

That game has nothing to do with their renovation. I provided you with quotes, from their administration stating that the money was not there to do the initial renovation.

Arkansas clears about 17 million dollars more than Oklahoma each year. And as Hawgeye pointed out, Arkansas is currently spending 400,000,000 on athletic upgrades.

Meanwhile, down in Baton Rouge...LSU doesn't have enough money to buy out their coach's contract to fire him.

ETA: Oklahoma is running their entire athletic department on a shoestring budget. They are spending over 100,000,000 to make 10,000,000.
And LSU apparently has NO money whatsoever.
