Your best team that started slow/ finished strong

What's your best team that may have gotten out of the gate slowly, but came on at the end of the year to be one of your best teams ever?
I think of the 89 Auburn team... we lost to UT early in the year and FSU about the midway point, both by a touchdown but really came on strong beat, Bama and Ohio State at the end of the year. Maybe one of our best teams ever.
I also think of that '07 UGA team that was rolling at the end of the year. I thought they were by far the best team in the country at the end of season.

1970...UT lost to Auburn the 2nd game of the season, then ran the table.

01 LSU. Lost first two SEC games to Tennessee and Florida. Won 5 out of the last 6 to win the West. Best Tennessee in a rematch in the SECCG, throttled Illinois in the Sugar Bowl

07 for sure, because of how mediocre we were to start the year.
I would put 2012 in that class as well. Got drubbed by South Carolina and was playing horrible defense, and then just flipped a switch in the Florida game. Once we won that one we were like a different team.

2015
Lost to a mediocre Ole Miss team, to the wire against a slightly-above average Tennessee team, still won the National Championship.

People had Alabama dead in the water last September.

07 for us for sure
we were 5-0 at the time and ranked 5th. I don't think that counts as starting slow. It was just one awful game. The only one we had all year.

But we were also playing really bad and had to squeak by bad Tennessee and Kentucky teams. Shawn Williams had to publicly call out his teammates for playing 'soft'
We may not have been a bad team, but we were a much better team after the Florida game.

As far as Auburn goes, the '83 team stands out. They got handled by Texas in the first game and by the end of the year, I thought they were the best team in the country.
For Bama, probably last year. They looked suspect up until the UGA game.

I don't think A&M has ever done that. We do the opposite. At least for the past 20 years.

In 1991, Alabama lost their second game 35-0. It was the last loss they'd take for over two years.

Coach Bryant had 3 Bama teams to lose the first or second game and then win out. The '65 team lost only the opener at UGA and went on to win the NC. The '75 team lost only the opener to Missouri. And the '77 team lost only at Nebraska in the second game of the year.
But Stallings '91 team tops them all. Lost THIRTY FIVE to NOTHING at Florida in the second game of the season. It would be TWO YEARS and TWO MONTHS before Bama would lose again, winning the NC in '92. FWIW, Florida lost the next week at Syracuse in the last OOC game they have played outside of the State of Florida.

2013 team started 1-2 (0-2 in the conference) and finished winning 8 of the last 10.

I'm gonna go 2012. To start the year we were an average team at best that had played nobody. Our only loss was at Florida, where the offense looked completely lost. The defense was pretty average all year, but there was a transition right before the Alabama game where Mettenberger went from a horrible QB to an all-american. It was weird. We threw it around the yard to end the season that year..... Well, that is until we played Clemson and shite the bed. It was a weird year. Looking back there was pretty much no reason why that team shouldn't have been awesome. Talent everywhere, they just looked out of sync most of the year.

It's tempting to say 2015 b/c they lost the 3rd game of season and then won 12 straight to win the title.
However, I'm gonna go with 1991 team. They lost the 2nd game of the year 35-0 and then went unbeaten in the next 29 games on their way to a 45-4-1 record in 1991, 1992, 1993, and 1994. That team turned it all around.

2006. Lost @ Aubie @ UF early, won @ UT @ Bama late, destroyed ND in the Sugar Bowl...would have had a good shot at UF if they had gotten to the SECCG...then would have dominated Okie too....oh well

You could throw in Alabama in 2014. After the WVU game, pretty much everyone was said Alabama wouldn't win with Blake Sims at QB. He had a great game vs Florida, but then Bama lost at Ole Miss. That same day, Auburn destroyed LSU 41-7 and a lot of people, including me, thought Auburn would repeat as SEC Champions.
That was a crazy year. A&M looked like the hot team in early September, then collapsed, but somehow upset Auburn on the road. LSU looked like they were in for a bad year after barely getting by Wisconsin and losing to Mississippi State at home. State and Auburn were the front runners for most of the year, then finished ugly. And poor Ole Miss beats Alabama at home, but goes on to lose to LSU, Auburn, and get shut out 30-0 by Arkansas.

Sucks they didn't have a conference championship in '91. That would have been a fun rematch.
